GRAND FORKS, N.D. - South Dakota State won all five freestyle events, lifting the Jackrabbit men's swimming and diving team to a 160-140 dual victory over the University of North Dakota Friday night.
Freshman Wil Hogue and junior Kyle Ochsner were each two-time individual winners in the freestyle events. Hogue swept the sprints, winning the 50-yard freestyle in 21.45 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 47.08 seconds.
Ochsner paced the Jackrabbits in the middle distance events, claiming the 200 freestyle in a time of 1 minute, 43.34 seconds and the 500-yard race in 4:46.95.
Blake Yeager completed the sweep for SDSU by winning the 1,000 freestyle in 9:59.01. The Jackrabbits took the top three spots in the race as Kyle Catani was runner-up in 10:06.39 and freshman Nathaniel Weinman placed third in 10:06.59.
Two other Jackrabbits each won two event titles. Phil Albu earned victories in the backstroke events, posting respective winning times of 51.87 seconds and 1:54.91 in the 100- and 200-yard races. Freshman Alex McLain was runner-up in both races.
Chris Schreier completed a sweep of the butterfly events, winning the 100-yard race in 51.37 seconds and the 200 in 1:52.88.
Albu, Schreier and Hogue teamed with Shea Patrick to open the meet with a victory in the 400 medley relay, 3:28.55.
The Jackrabbits, who completed the dual season with a 6-2 record, are slated to compete in the Minnesota Challenge Feb. 3-4 in Minneapolis.
