Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – Junior Mariah Clarin (Princeton, Minn.) recorded her first career double-double to help lead the South Dakota State women's basketball team to a 57-52 win over TCU Wednesday in the Puerto Vallarta Hardwood Tournament of Hope.
The Jackrabbits extend their winning streak to four games and are 4-2 on the season while TCU drops to 4-2.
Clarin led SDSU with career highs of 13 points and 15 rebounds. Junior Megan Waytashek (Lino Lakes, Minn.) and senior Steph Paluch (Pierre) each added 10 points.
Trailing 30-29 at halftime, South Dakota State used an 11-3 run to open the second half to take a 40-33 lead with 15:50 left in the game. The Jacks got five points from Clarin and three-pointers from freshman Kerri Young (Mitchell) and sophomore Chloe Cornemann (Yankton) to fuel the run.
TCU took its only lead, 47-46, of the second half when Natalie Ventress sank a three-pointer at 6:56. The Horned Frogs sank seven treys in the game, including five in the first half.
South Dakota State took an eight-point lead with 37 seconds left in the game after Waytashek hit a three-pointer and the Jacks got free throws from Clarin and senior Tara Heiser (Watertown) down the stretch.
Guard Zahna Medley led all scorers with 27 points on 6 of 20 shooting, including 5 of 12 from beyond the three-point line.
South Dakota State returns to action Thursday when it plays No. 6/5 Stanford at 4 p.m.
