FORT WORTH, Texas - The South Dakota State women's basketball team started strong but ultimately fell 72-54 to six-seed Washington Friday afternoon in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. The Jackrabbits end the season with a 27-7 overall record while the Huskies, at 22-10, advance to play No. 3 TCU in the Second Round.

Brooklyn Meyer scored 29 points in her final game as a Jackrabbit, matching SDSU's NCAA Tournament single-game scoring record. She also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, plus had one block and one steal.
Meyer scored seven early points as the Jacks jumped out to a 13-3 lead over the first five minutes of the contest. Following the first media timeout of the game, Washington forced four SDSU turnovers and responded with 12 of the final 15 points over the remainder of the quarter to tie the game at 15. A 10-point scoring run in the second quarter pushed the Huskies out to a 38-24 lead at halftime. Meyer scored seven straight early in the third, cutting the deficit to nine, but the Huskies pulled away again.
After Meyer,
Emilee Fox scored 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc. Already the top 3-point shooter in the country, Fox increased her shooting percentage to .491 for her sophomore season. Fox also dished three assists. Senior
Madison Mathiowetz chipped in six points and had five assists.
Washington's Avery Howell poured in 30 points with 7 treys and posted nine rebounds to lead all players. Sayvia Sellers, Washington's leading scorer, was held to four points but dished 10 assists and had three steals.
The Jackrabbits finished with a better shooting percentage, 44%, but turned the ball over 18 times. The Huskies posted a 40-25 advantage on the glass.
