COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The South Dakota State equestrian team traveled to Texas for a Hobo Day Saturday show against Texas A&M, but came up short against the Aggies, falling 15-4.
The loss drops the Jackrabbits to 2-3 on the season, while the Aggies improve to 2-1.
“We didn't have a great day,” head coach Megan Rossiter said.” Our one strong event today was the flat, but penalties in horsemanship and reining kept us out of the points. We need to get that corrected and come back strong at home next week.”
The Jacks got two of the five points on the flat, with junior Marielle Golden leading the way with an 82 to improve to 3-0 this season on the flat. Sophomore Blair Julia Wright also notched the win column with a score of 79 to even her season record at 2-2.
Sophomore Maddie Lewis scored a career-high 82 on the flat, but still fell to 0-2 on the season, as her opponent posted an 84 in earning MOP honors.
Sophomore Victoria Johnson moves to 3-2 on the season with a 72 in horsemanship, but that represented the only SDSU point in the event.
Mariah Wright scored the Jacks lone point in reining, carding a 70 to improve to 3-0-1 on the season.
Despite riding a horse named Hobo on Hobo Day, junior All-American Raivenne Scott fell in her reining ride with a score of 68 to fall to an even 2-2 on the seaosn.
The Jackrabbits look to rebound with a pair of meets next week, starting on Friday, when they welcome New Mexico State to the DeHaan Center at 8 a.m., followed by a meet against SMU on Saturday, also at 8 a.m.
