Jacks fall short in Summit League semifinals

DENVER, Colo. -- South Dakota State (18-8, 5-1) saw its season come to an end Saturday afternoon in Denver as the Jacks fell to Fort Wayne (17-9, 4-2), 4-1 in the Summit League Championships semifinals.

"We knew it was going to be a fight," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "I am proud to say that we didn't back down. All of the breaks that went our way the first time around against them didn't happen today."

IPFW claimed the doubles point by winning the No. 1 and No. 3 matchups. Freshman Iasmin Rosa and sophomore Beatriz Souza downed their IPFW foes, 8-5 at No. 2.

Rosa continued her winning ways in singles, as she won in the No. 3 position 6-2, 6-1.

Florencia Magni, Beatriz Souza and Tacy Haws-Lays were all bested in the No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 matches, respectively.

"It was a historical season for us and I couldn't be more proud of the girls," Engdahl added. I am really looking forward to the bright future of Jackrabbit tennis with the next step winning a round at the conference tournament and giving it a run in the finals."
