TULSA, Okla. – Oral Roberts' Tahlor Lyman scored the tying goal late in regulation and added the game-winning goal six-plus minutes into overtime, lifting the Golden Eagles to a 3-2 victory South Dakota State in Summit League women's soccer action Thursday afternoon..
The Jackrabbits' record fell to 8-5-2 in the season, 3-1-1 in conference play, while Oral Roberts improved to 8-7-2 and 4-2-0.
“We didn't give our best effort today. Oral Roberts came out with much more intensity and worked us,” said Jackrabbit head coach Lang Wedemeyer after the disappointing loss.
The Golden Eagles took advantage of an early goal 13 minutes into regulation off a deflection from a prior shot.
SDSU was granted a penalty kick toward the end of the first half, on which senior Diana Potterveld was successful in finding the back of the net, tying the game leading into half time.
Early in the second half the Jackrabbits were granted a second penalty kick with Potterveld once again able to take advantage of the opportunity and notch her fifth goal of the season.
Oral Roberts rallied late in the second half, creating Lyman's first goal off a cross from outside the box, tying the game at 2-all and forcing the teams into overtime play.
The Golden Eagles prevailed in the 97th minute as Lyman sent the ball just past junior goalkeeper Nicole Inskeep.
Wedemeyer reflected on Thursday's performance with, “Sunday becomes the most important game of the season for us.” The Jackrabbits close out regular season home action Sunday with an 11:30 a.m. contest against Fort Wayne.
