BROOKINGS, S.D. -- South Dakota State defeated Omaha, 1-0 at Fishback Soccer Park on Sunday in the first Summit League women's soccer action of the season for the Jackrabbits.
The Jackrabbits' record advances to 6-4-1 overall, 1-0 in The Summit League; the Mavericks fall to 3-7-2, 0-2 in the league.
After a scoreless first half, in which the Jacks took five shot attempts to the Mavericks' four, SDSU came to the second half playing more aggressively to find the back of the net.
South Dakota State attempted nine shots in the second half of the game. Sophomore Nicole Hatcher, a native of Sioux Falls, was able to secure the win for the Jacks on a goal late with under nine minutes to play in regulation. Hatcher notched her second goal of the season.
The Mavericks attempted only one shot on goal, which was saved by junior goalkeeper Nicole Inskeep following Hatcher's goal. Inskeep recorded her 16th career shutout – and fourth this season – to move to within one of tying for second all-time in shutouts at SDSU.
The Jackrabbits will return to play next Sunday (Oct. 11) at Denver.
