GRAND FORKS, N.D. -- South Dakota State opened its weekend with a 6-1 win over North Dakota. SDSU won five of six singles matches and the doubles point.
"The girls should be proud of the way they played today," head coach Michael Engdahl said. "We didn't produce last weekend and that weighed heavy on the girls over the week of practice."
SDSU opened strong by taking by winning the doubles point.
Jackrabbit duos of Ffion Davies/Iasmin Rosa and Elif Gabb/Florencia Magni both secured wins but scores of 7-6 (7-4) and 6-1, respectively.
Rosa and Magni also added wins in singles at #2 and #3 by 6-1, 6-1 and 7-6 (7-5), 6-2, scores.
Tacy Haws-Lay, Beatriz Souza and Gabb were also victoriues. Haws-Lay won 6-4, 6-2, Souza won 6-3, 7-6 (11-9) and Gabb won 6-0, 7-5.
"I know they put pressure on themselves to perform this weekend, but they fought hard and played great today," Engdahl added.
SDSU returns to action in Grand Forks on Sunday against Northern Arizona at 9 a.m.
