SIOUX FALLS – Four South Dakota State men's basketball players earned Summit League honors on Thursday for their play during the 2014-15 season in leading the Jackrabbits to the No. 1 overall seed at The Summit League Championships.
Both Cody Larson and Deondre Parks earned All-Summit League first team honors; with Larson adding defensive player of the year honors and Parks the newcomer of the year nod, the first Jackrabbits to earn either honor.
“We're very pleased with the four players on our team that were honored, we certainly spread the wealth this year in terms of scoring. Cody led us in scoring, led the league in rebounding and was certainly a good defensive player for us,” head coach Scott Nagy said. “We added so many new guys that we knew we would have one or two of them on the all-newcomer team. I think that many of the awards given out are essentially team awards anyway for us, and I think that's how the guys look at it, and I'm sure they're all very humbled for being honored.”
In addition to Larson and Parks, junior George Marshall earned a spot on both the all-league second team and all-newcomer team, while junior Jake Bittle landed on the Honorable Mention All-Summit League team.
A senior from Sioux Falls and 2013-14 all-league second team selection, Larson averaged 14.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game overall, but averaged 15.4 points and a league-high 7.7 rebounds per game in league play.
A junior transfer from Iowa Lakes Community College, Parks made an immediate impact for the Jacks. The Flint, Mich., native averaged an even 14 points per game, adding 3.8 rebounds and almost two assists per contest.
A transfer from Wisconsin, Marshall joined the Jacks in December after sitting out the first nine games due to transfer rules and made an immediate impact, earning MVP honors at the World Vision Classic. The Chicago native finished with 13.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per outing in 21 games.
Bittle earned his first league honor after averaging 10.6 points and 4.8 rebounds per game in league play. The Bixby, Okla., native also led the Jackrabbits with 39 steals and with 2.8 assists per game.
