DES MOINES, Iowa – South Dakota State beat Drake, 2-1, on Sunday for the Jackrabbits' second consecutive win. The Bulldogs took 16 shots to the Jacks' 12, but the Jackrabbits succeeded in finding the back of the net.
Senior Alyssa Brazil scored an early goal with an assist from senior Diana Potterveld, kicking up the momentum for the Jacks.
Drake tied the score towards the end of the first half with a goal from junior Kayla Armstrong, but the Jacks came back after halftime determined to get the ball to the back of the net.
Around the 52-minute mark, junior Madison Yueill scored the game-winning goal off a penalty kick. This marks the second penalty kick goal for Yueill this season.
Junior Nicole Inskeep made 11 saves for the Jacks, which now has her tying Erin Miller for seventh place in all-time career goal keeping saves.
“I thought that we played really well for sections of the game. We had chances to put the game away, but did what we needed to do to get a result today. Learning to win on the road is really important when it comes to conference time,” said head coach Lang Wedemeyer.
The Jackrabbits, 2-1 overall, will return to action Sept. 4 at UMKC.
