KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The South Dakota State women's soccer team was downed by UMKC Friday, 3-1, bringing the Jackrabbits' season record to 2-2-0.
The Jacks fell behind early in the first half with goals from UMKC's junior Emily Herndon and freshman Alexis Howard within the first 15 minutes of play.
UMKC nudged past the backline again at the end of the first half , when freshman Ryann Burnett was able to score a goal on the Jackrabbits.
Senior Dani Patterson shot her first goal of the season early in the second half with an assist from senior Alyssa Brazil.
The Jacks kept up with the Kangaroos with 10 shot attempts to UMKC's 11.
“It was a tough night for the Jacks. I thought we played some of our best soccer of the season, but the difference was starting poorly and unfocused defensive mistakes that put us too far behind to catch up. We'll learn from this and be ready for Sunday,” said head coach Lang Wedemeyer.
SDSU will return to action Sunday at 3 p.m. against Creighton in Omaha, Neb.
