MILWAUKEE, Wis.--- South Dakota State's 21 shot attempts were not enough to hold off the Ramblers of Loyola (Chicago), Friday at the Marquette Invitational as the Jackrabbits dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime.
The Ramblers found the back of the net late in the first half of the game when Shelby Koch took a shot from 36 yards out after a take-away.
Early in the second half, senior Diana Potterveld scored the lone goal for the Jacks, tying the game 1-1 and pushing the teams into overtime.
“I thought, once again, we had the better of the plays and created plenty of chances to win the game. We are missing our chances, both offensively and defensively, to make the plays that allow us to get the results we need. We'll continue to press ahead to find that elusive consistency we need to be the excellent team we are capable of being,” said head coach Lang Wedemeyer.
Ultimately, Loyola prevailed with a goal early in overtime by Jessica Bean with a shot from 32 yards out, sending the ball over junior goalkeeper Nicole Inskeep.
SDSU's record is now 3-3-0 and Loyola's record improves to 4-2-1.
The Jackrabbits return to action Sunday playing host school, Marquette, at 1:30 p.m. in the Marquette Invitational.
