LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Kansas scored three times in the second half to defeat South Dakota State, 3-0, Friday night in the Jackrabbit women's soccer team's last non-conference game of the season.
SDSU head coach Lang Wedemeyer reflected, “We came up against a very talented Kansas team today, and the better team won. Having said that, we had our chances to change the tide of the game and didn't take them. Now the focus will be on getting ready for conference play.”
The Jayhawks took advantage of more scoring opportunities than the Jacks, taking 27 to SDSU's 14.
SDSU was able to maintain a scoreless first half with junior Nicole Inskeep making six saves in the first 45 minutes of the contest.
Ashley Williams scored off a corner kick less than three minutes into the second half, giving the Jayhawks the advantage. Ashley Pankey scored two goals five minutes apart late in the game to provide the final margin.
Leading the Jackrabbits in shot attempts were senior Dani Patterson with three, senior Alyssa Brazil with two and sophomore Jennie Scislow with two.
The Jacks' record falls to 5-4-1, and the Jayhawks improved to 5-4-1.
SDSU will play Omaha next Sunday (Oct. 4) at 1 p.m. at Fishback Soccer Park. This will be their first game of Summit League play.
