OMAHA, Neb. -- South Dakota State prevailed over Creighton in women's soccer for the first time in program history Sunday afternoon, winning by a score of 1-0.
“This was a historic win for us. Creighton has always been a very tough rival and we've had so many close games. It was so great to rebound from Friday and get a win today,” said head coach Lang Wedemeyer.
Early in the second half, sophomore Tori Poole took a shot from 30 yards out finding the back of the net resulting in the game winning point. Fellow sophomore Nicole Hatcher assisted on the play.
The Jackrabbits played an aggressive offensive game, taking 14 shots to Creighton's nine. In the first half alone, the Jacks took 10 shots and the Bluejays only shot twice.
Junior Nicole Inskeep made three saves for the Jacks and added another career win to her record.
The Jackrabbits' overall record improved to 3-2-0, and the Bluejays record is now 4-2-0.
SDSU will travel to play in the Marquette Invitational next, facing Loyola, Sept. 11 in Milwaukee, Wis.
