The South Dakota State University women's swimming and diving team won the final two events, edging the University of South Dakota, 156-144, in dual action Friday at the Marshall Center Pool.
Trailing by 10 points, the Jackrabbits regained the lead in the final individual event of the night, sweeping the top three spots in the 200-yard individual medley. Kayce Smith touched first in 2 minutes, 11.32 seconds, followed by Kristin Erf in 2:13.30 and Kalen Critchley in 2:13.86.
SDSU secured its first dual win of the season with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay. Senior Hadlie Overhue overtook her Coyote opponent on the anchor leg, teaming with Cassie Hendricks, Erf and Abby Zenner for a winning time of 3:58.63.
Hendricks, Overhue and Smith accounted for the bulk of the Jackrabbit individual victories on the evening, with each claiming two event titles. Hendricks swept the backstroke events, winning the 100 in 58.81 seconds and the 200 in 2:07.37.
Although Overhue sprinted her way to victory in the final relay, she picked up two wins in the middle distance events earlier in the meet. Overhue clocked a winning time of 1:56.59 in the 200 freestyle, followed by a top time of 5:11.02 in the 500.
Smith also won the 200 breaststroke, posting a time of 2:24.28 to go along with her win in the 200 IM. Erf, who finished second in the 200 breaststroke, switched places with Smith in the 100 breaststroke, winning in 1:05.78.
The Jackrabbit women conclude the home dual season next Friday (Jan. 29), hosting Omaha at 6 p.m.
