The Jackrabbits improve to 18-5 overall and remain atop the league standings with a 7-2 mark, while the Pioneers fall to an even 11-11 overall and to 3-8 in league play.
SDSU got six field goals from six different players to start the game, but none of them got more than one for the first 18 minutes of the first half, as the Jackrabbits struggled out of the gate. George Marshall broke the trend with a 3-pointer with 1 minute 54 seconds left in the first half and Reed Tellinghuisen followed suit 30 seconds later to cap an 8-0 run that tied the game at 22.
Denver would add a 3-pointer and the Jacks a Marshall jumper after that to give the Pioneers a 25-24 lead at halftime.
Tellinghuisen opened the scoring in the second half with his third triple of the day to give SDSU its first lead at 27-25 early in the 2nd half, the first of seven lead changes, all in the second half, to go along with seven ties, all but one of which came in the second half.
Down 46-47 with just under nine minutes left, a pair of Ian Theisen foul shots marked the final tie and lead change to put SDSU up 48-47 and spark a 9-0 SDSU run that ended with the Jacks up 55-47 with 4:33 left, capped by a Jake Bittle 3-pointer.
The lead would grow to as many as 12 at 63-51 on a Marshall 3-pointer with just over three minutes left, and the Pioneers would get no closer than 10 points the rest of the way.
Mike Daum led a trio of Jackrabbits in double figures with 15 points and added 7 rebounds. Marshall added 13 points and 6 rebounds, while Bittle pitched in with 12 points and a game-high 8 rebounds, as the Jacks finished plus-14 on the glass, 36-22. Tellinghuisen finished with nine points, with a trio of triples in the win.
Both Joe Rosga and C.J. Bobbitt scored 12 points to lead the Pioneers, with Marcus Byrd adding 11 points in the loss. Â
SDSU gets a full week off before returning to action next Saturday, Feb. 6, against IUPUI in the 44th Annual Pork Classic at 7 p.m., following the Jackrabbit women's game with North Dakota State at 4:30 p.m. inside Frost Arena.
