INDIANAPOLIS – Mike Daum scored a career-high 23 points and South Dakota State led by as many as seven points early on Thursday at IUPUI, but the Jaguars rallied back to take a halftime lead, and then used an 11-1 run midway through the second half to regain the lead and secure a 74-67 win.
The loss snaps SDSU's 11 game winning streak in the series, drops the Jackrabbits to 13-4 on the season overall, and to 2-1 in The Summit League, while the Jags improve to 6-12 overall and to 2-1 in league play.
The Jackrabbits got four baskets from four different players in opening a 9-4 lead before Reed Tellinghuisen's second hoop of the night, a 3-pointer, put the Jacks leading 12-4 just over five minutes into the game.
Up three midway through the first half, the Jaguars used an 8-0 run to turn the SDSU lead in to a 21-17 Jags lead, only to see the Jacks bounce back with an 8-0 run of their own to regain the lead, but IUPUI fought back to regain the lead, and led 30-28 at halftime.
The teams exchanged buckets to open the second half before the Jacks used a 7-0 spurt to 37-32 less than three minutes into the frame, but the Jags scored the next five to force the sixth tie of the contest at 37-all.
Up 49-48 with just under 11 minutes to play, the Jaguars regained the lead with a 6-0 run, part of the 11-1 run that turned into a 17-3 run to take their largest lead at 65-52 with 3 minutes, 19 seconds left and never looked back.
Along with his career-high 23 points, Daum tied for team-high honors with six rebounds. Deondre Parks and George Marshall both finished with 15 points, with Parks also getting eight boards, while Reed Tellinghuisen added 10 points before fouling out late.
Darell Combs led a trio of Jaguars in double figures with 18 points, with Jordan Pickett adding 14 and Nick Osborne 11 in the win.
The Jackrabbits look to rebound for the loss when they return home next Thursday to host Fort Wayne inside Frost Arena at 7 p.m.
