The South Dakota State women's tennis team captured three championship titles this pas weekend at the Bluejay Invitational in Omaha, Nebraska.
Senior
Iasmin Rosa and sophomore
Morgan Brower won flight A doubles matches, defeating South Dakota, 6-4, Creighton, 6-0 and Nebraska-Omaha, 6-3.
Also in flight A,
Molly Crum and
Isabella Chela lost their first two rounds against Creighton, 6-4 and North Dakota, 7-5. The duo rallied to beat Doane, 6-1.
Freshman
Emilly Van Dijk and junior
Maria Laura Velazco won the flight B doubles beating Doane, 7-5, North Dakota, 6-0 and South Dakota, 6-2, to capture the title.
Rosa won the flight A singles crown after a tough first-round battle beating North Dakota, 3-6, 6-3. 6-4. In the second round, she defeated Creighton, 6-4, 6-3 to advance to the semifinals where she lost to South Dakota, 6-4, 6-4.
Velazco won the first round in flight C singles, defeating South Dakota, 0-6, 6-4, 6-2, but lost the next round to North Dakota, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, and managed to finish strong by beating teammate,
Laura Romero, 6-2, 6-2.
In flight D singles, Van Dijk won the first round, 6-0, 6-1, against Doane, but fell to North Dakota, 4-6, 6-4. 6-3, and South Dakota, 6-2, 6-7, (10-7).
