As Summit League play heads into the stretch run, South?Dakota State finds itself locked in a battle atop the league standings with Fort Wayne heading into Thursday's game against the Mastodons at Gates Sports Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.
Both the Jackrabbits and Mastodons enter the game with the dame 9-3 league records, with Omaha not far behind, as the Mavericks entered the week just one game behind in the loss column, but all three teams start the week two games clear of the next closest teams.
With a win over IPFW?already under its belt, SDSU controls its own destiny, and can secure the No. 1 seed in next month's league tournament by winning out. The Mastodons, who host Omaha on Saturday, also control their own destiny, and can secure the regular season title if they win out.
Both SDSU and IPFW play four more games, while the Mavericks opened the week with just three games remaining on their Summit League schedule, so things could change drastically over the final two weeks. Â
THE OPPONENT
FORT WAYNE MASTODONS (20-7, 9-3 Summit, 10-1 Home): The best start in program history continues for IPFW, as the Mastodons earned their second 20-win season at the Division I?level on Saturday with a win over Denver.
Picked to finish fourth in The Summit League Preseason Poll, the Mastodons enter the game tied with SDSU atop the league standings at 9-3 with four games to play. Â Â Â Â Â Â

SDSU's last win in Fort Wayne came on Feb. 7, 2013, when Nate Wolters set SDSU single-game records with 53 points and nine 3-pointers at Memorial Coliseum. The Jacks lone win at Gates Sports Center came on Jan. 28, 2012, a 74-43 win in front of a series-low crowd of 622.
