Upcoming Event: Men's Basketball versus Mayville State (Exhibition) on October 29, 2025 at 8:30 p.m.

2/19/2016 12:19:00 PM | Men's Basketball
A setback in Fort Wayne on Thursday dropped South Dakota State out of first place in The Summit League Standings, and now the Jackrabbits look to avoid back-to-back losses for the first time this season on Saturday, when they take on?Western Illinois in Macomb, Ill., at 2 p.m.
Still in contention to win the league's regular season title, the Jacks no longer control their own destiny, and need to win out, couple with at least one Fort Wayne loss, to earn a share of the regular season title and a potential No. 1 seed at The Summit League Championships next month.
The Jacks got 27 points from?George Marshall in Thursday's loss at Fort Wayne, with both Mike Daum and Ian Theisen adding 13 points and Reed Tellinghuisen 10 points in the loss, which essentially hinged on IPFW capitalizing on 13 offensive rebounds to the tune of 19 points. SDSU, on the other hand, scored five points on six offensive rebounds.
SDSU trailed by as many as 11 points in the first meeting with Western Illinois on Jan. 3, at Frost Arena, but outscored the Fighting Leathernecks 36-27 in the second half to secure the 63-59 win, it's 16th straight win over Western Illinois.
THE OPPONENT
WESTERN ILLINOIS FIGHTING LEATHERNECKS (9-15, 2-11 Summit, 6-4 Home): The Leathernecks opened the season with wins in seven of their first nine games, including a season-opening win at No. 17 Wisconsin, but proceeded to lose their next 11 games, including their first nine Summit League games.
