The South Dakota State equestrian opened its spring season with a dominating 15-0 win over Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday at the DeHaan Equestrian Center in Brookings for the program's first-ever shutout. SDSU also earned all four MOPs on the day.
The Jackrabbits, who won 15 of the 16 available points and tied in one ride, improve to 3-6 overall with the win, while the Golden Eagles fall to 0-2 in NCEA completion.
“Today was a strong start to the semester, and gives us great momentum going in to our next meet against TCU,” head coach Ellie Wilkins said. “We got strong rides across the board, and I'm very pleased with our performance as a whole.”
SDSU opened the day by winning all four points over fences, with Marielle Golden leading the way with an MOP score of 85 to improve to 4-5 on the season, her second MOP of the season and sixth of her career. Alissa Greenwald carded an 83 to boost her record to 6-3, Blair Julia Wright moved to 3-2-1 with a 75 and Jessica Andronowitz scored a 71 to move to 5-4.
The Jacks kept it going into horsemanship, where Nicole Siebold scored a 74 and Lexus Hoffman 73, as both riders even their records at 4-4. Hoffman earned MOP honors for the first time this season and for the third time in her career. Kelsey Swainston finished with a 71.5 to stay undefeated with a 5-0-1 record, while Vanessa Hinkle scored 70 for her first-career point in her first-ever official NCEA ride.
Andronowitz and Golden scored points again on the flat; Golden with a 78 to move to 6-3 and Andronowitz with a 76 to improve to 3-4, with her second MOP of the season and fourth of her career, which ties the school record. Natalie Howard won her point with a 72 to even her record at 4-4.
The Jackrabbits look to keep it rolling on Feb. 26, when they host TCU in their final home meet of the season. The action begins at 9 a.m.
