GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado scored an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat South Dakota State, 7-6, and salvage the final game of a three-game college baseball series Sunday afternoon at Jackson Field.

UNC's game-winning rally came after the Jackrabbits' Luke Ringhofer tied the game at 6-all with a solo home run with two outs in the eighth innings. Ryan Yamane started the Bear rally by reaching on an error and moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt. He moved up another base on a flyout and scored on Corey Nakakura's two-out single to right field. Nakakura was 3-for-4 as UNC finished with a 10-9 advantage in hits.

The Jackrabbits got out to a 2-0 lead with runs in the second and third innings. Newt Johnson and Ringhofer opened the second with back-to-back singles before Johnson scored on a groundout off the bat of Phil Velez. Paul Jacobson, who doubled with one out, scored the third-inning run on a groundout by Schneider.

After UNC tied the game on a two-run single by Rob Cashel in the bottom of the fourth, Schneider helped give the Jackabbits a 5-2 lead in the top of the seventh with a two-run, two-out single. Jacobson drove in Velez with the first run of the frame with an infield single with the bases loaded.

Northern Colorado, 4-13 overall, gained its first lead of the contest with a four-run home half of the seventh. The Bears tallied four hits in the inning, including run-scoring hits by Tanner and Dan Reese.

SDSU starter Eldon Evans allowed two runs on four hits over five innings in a no-decision effort. Derringer Huff pitched 1 1/3 inning of scoreless relief, while Greg Casper was the hard-luck losing pitcher.

Ringhofer was 3-for-4 to lead the Jackrabbits at the plate. Jacobson added two hits.

The Jackrabbits, 2-14 overall, are scheduled to open Summit League action Friday at Oral Roberts. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. at J.L. Johnson Stadium in Tulsa, Okla.
