South Dakota State University swimmer Weston Christensen was named Thursday to the 2015-16 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America Division I Men's At-Large Third Team.
A junior from Pierre, Christensen was honored on the team after compiling a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while majoring in civil engineering. A total of 45 student-athletes from 11 different sports were honored on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Men's At-Large Team.
In the pool, Christensen placed eighth in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the 2016 Summit League Championships. He holds top-10 marks in program history in both the 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle. In addition, Christensen has been a member of the Summit League All-Academic Team each of the past two seasons and has been recognized as a Summit League Distinguished Scholar and on the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence.
Christensen is the fourth Jackrabbit student-athlete to be named to a CoSIDA Academic All-America team during the 2015-16 academic year. Football student-athletes Nick Mears (first team), Shayne Gottlob (second team) and Jake Wieneke (second team) were honored in the fall.
Candidates must be at least a sophomore in athletic and academic standing, a significant contributor to his team and carry at least a 3.3 GPA.
