The South Dakota State soccer team prepares for the 2016 season this week when it travels to Kansas and Colorado for a pair of exhibition matches. The Jackrabbits meet Missouri State at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Kansas City. They then travel west to take on Northern Colorado Friday at 8 p.m. at Jackson Stadium in Greeley.

"We have several goals for our exhibitions. The first is to figure out our best early season lineup and groups of players that work well together on the field. Secondly, to get our players some match fitness. Lastly, to start to acclimate the new players to the speed of the college game," 17

Lang Wedemeyer said. "We are excited to play two quality programs like Missouri State and Northern Colorado. They should be great early tests and help us with our preparation."

The Jackrabbits are coming off their second consecutive NCAA College Cup and third overall appearance. They finished 12-6-3 overall and 6-1-2 in The Summit League.

SDSU returns 20 letterwinners, including seven starters. Senior midfielder
Madison Yueill returns as the squad's top returning scoring with nine points on four goals and an assist. Sophomore
Nicole Hatcher tallied six points from her forward position and classmate
Tori Poole added four points.

The Jackrabbits defense produced nine shutouts in 2015. Senior goalkeeper
Nicole Inskeep logged eight shutouts and posted a 1.06 goals-against average in 20 matches. She registered a .815 save percentage and 11-5-3 record.

Missouri State finished 9-7-1 last season under head coach Rob Brewer. The Bears, who reached the 2000 NCAA College Cup, return seven starters and welcomes 10 newcomers.

Northern Colorado also returns seven starters after finishing 2015 with a 13-8-2 record and losing to Arizona in the NCAA College Cup.

The Jackrabbits open their 16
th season Aug. 19 when they host Utah State at 6 p.m. at the Fishback Soccer Park.
