South Dakota State's track and field teams are set to return to action Jan. 28 when they travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa, for the Mark Messersmith Invite hosted by the University of Northern Iowa.

Field events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with the men's pole vault and women's weight throw. The women's long jump and men's high jump are set to begin at 10:30 a.m. Track events will kick off at 12:30 p.m. with the men's 60-meter hurdles prelims, with the women's 60-meter hurdles prelims to follow.

The Jacks will be competing against Drake, Indiana State, Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the host, University of Norther Iowa.

South Dakota State enters the weekend fresh off an impressive home meet that saw 14 changes in the all-time top-10 performances, including
Sam Zenner breaking the 60-meter dash record.

The Jacks currently have 27 student-athletes in the top-five of their event(s) in The Summit League on the season, including the top time or mark in five events.

Carly Carper recorded the fastest 60-meter dash time in The Summit League last weekend. She also has the second fastest 200-meter dash time in the league this season.

Kyle Burdick won the mile run in 4:11.38 at the Jim Emmerich Invite, which stands as the top mile time in The Summit League so far.

Brendan Sage currently has the league's top men's 3,000-meter time (8:34.71) on the season, while
Rachel King has the women's top 3,000-meter time (9:54.92).

Bryant Courter has the top long jump on the season, with a mark of 23-07.50.

Next Up
South Dakota State will have a split squad the weekend of Feb. 3. Part of the team will travel to Lincoln, Neb., to compete in the Husker Invite Feb. 3-4, while part of the team will head to Vermillion, S.D., Feb. 4 to compete in the Dakota Realty/Alumni Invitational.
