      The South Dakota State volleyball team plays its final two matches of the season this week. The Jackrabbits host in-state rival South Dakota Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a South Dakota Corn Showdown Series match. State is at Fort Wayne Saturday for a 6 p.m. match.
           In their lone match is past weekend, the Jackrabbits (2-23, 0-12) lost to Western Illinois (3-1) Nov. 4.
           Sophomore
Ashlynn Smith had a career- and match-high 14 kills.
Ellie Benson added a team-best 19 digs and recorded her 1,000th career dig.
           South Dakota (14-9, 9-3) is third in The Summit League. The Coyotes defeated to Omaha (3-2) Nov. 3 but lost at Oral Roberts (3-1) Nov. 5. Fort Wayne dropped a pair of matches last week, losing at Omaha (3-1) and North Dakota State (3-2). The Mastodons are currently sixth in the league standings.

- Tuesday's match is Feed the Fan Night and Professor Night. Cubby's will provide food to Jackrabbit fans on entrance and SDSU professors will be recognized after the second set.

Setting the Scene
- South Dakota State is looking to snap a 12-match losing streak and win its first Summit League match of the season.
- SDSU is 42-45 at home in Summit League matches since 2007. Its last home league win was a 3-1 decision over of Fort Wayne Oct. 30, 2016.
- The Jackrabbits are 24-59 in Summit League road matches since 2007. The Jacks have lost their last nine Summit League road matches, dating to a 3-0 loss at IUPUI Oct. 23, 2016.
- Tuesday's match is the 86th match between State and USD. The Jackrabbits lead the all-time series, 58-27. State has lost the last four matches in the series and six of the last 10 in Frost Arena. The last home win was Oct. 13, 2015, in a three-set match.
- Fort Wayne leads the series with the Jacks, 21-6. SDSU won two of the last four meetings. Its last road win vs. the Mastodons was Nov. 17, 2007, in a five-set match.
- South Dakota State is in its 52nd season overall and 13th in the Division I era. The Jackrabbits sport an 896-707-8 (.556) all-time record and 175-256 (.406) mark in Division I play.

A Quick Glance at South Dakota State
- South Dakota State, led by third-year head coach Nicole Cirillo, is hitting .125 as a team and is led offensively by sophomore Ashlynn Smith. The outside hitter is averaging 2.46 kills per set.Â
- Junior outside attacker Sierra Peterson averages 2.06 kills per set and has a team-high 28 service aces.
- Freshman Maddie Fay has taken over the setting duties for State. She averages 4.91 set assists.
- On defense, the Jackrabbits' lone senior, libero Ellie Benson, tops the squad with 3.98 digs per set and ranks fifth in Summit League matches and sixth overall.
- The bright spot for South Dakota State has been blocking. The team averages 1.59 blocks per set with freshman Macy Smith leading the squad with 50 (13-37) total blocks.
- The Jackrabbits return three starters from the 2016 season in Peterson, Smith and Benson. Junior middle hitter Payton Richardson (1.40 kps, 0.62 bps), Macy Smith (1.15 kps) and freshman Hanna Jellema join the probable starting six this week.
- The 2017 SDSU volleyball roster features 14 players from nine states. Of the 14 players, two are from South Dakota, four from Iowa, two from Nebraska and one each from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Texas and Wisconsin. By class, the Jacks have one senior, three juniors, three sophomores and seven freshmen.

- Senior setter Brittany Jessen runs South Dakota's offense, averaging 10.36 set assists. She also averages 2.48 digs per set.
- Kerns leads the Yotes with 46 total blocks.
- Sophomore libero Anne Rasmussen is recording a team-best 5.38 digs per set.

Fort Wayne (11-17, 3-9)—Fort Wayne enters Saturday's match on a six-match losing streak.
- The Mastodons are hitting .185 as a team with their offensive attack coming from junior Nicole Rightnowar. The outside hitter leads the squad in kills per set (3.20) and averages 3.21 digs per set.
- Freshman middle hitter Sydney Boerst is hitting a team-high .324 and averages 2.04 kills per set while blocking 0.88 attacks a match.
- Junior setter Madison Jaqua runs the offense, registering 9.21 set assists per outing.
- On defense, IPFW has five players averaging 2.0-or-more digs per set, led by junior libero Elizabeth Britner's 3.82 dps.
- Four Mastodons have 50-or-more total blocks, led by senior middle hitter Natalie Seiler's 0.90 blocks per set.
