Women’s Golf at the Hurricane Invitational

The South Dakota State women's golf team faces its toughest competition starting Monday when it travels south to play in the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla.
The three-day event features two teams ranked in the top 20 according to Golfstat rankings and seven in the top 50. The Jackrabbits enter the tournament ranked No. 69.
The 54-hole event takes place at the Biltmore Golf Course, a par-71, 6,061-yard course. Teams play 18 holes Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The Jackrabbits will have 8:30 a.m. tee times Monday and Tuesday and a 9 a.m. shotgun start Wednesday.
The 16-team field includes No. 14 Miami, No. 16 Northwestern, No. 34 Michigan, No. 44 Augusta State, No. 45 Iowa State, No. 46 Louisville, No. 49 Eastern Carolina, Penn State, Florida International, Minnesota, Virginia Tech, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, South Florida and Division II member Barry.
The Jackrabbits are coming off a second-place finish at the Battle at the Boulder Feb. 13-14 in Nevada. State shot a three-round 895 for its sixth top-three finish of the season. Seniors Megan Mingo and Islamiah Fuad tied for third, firing 220s.
Mingo leads SDSU with a 74.24 stroke average with a title at the Seton Hall Pirate Invitational Oct. 28-29 and three top-5 and five top-10 finishes this season. She is fifth in The Summit League in stroke average.
Senior Hallie Getz won the Chip-N Club Sept. 25-27 and has four top-five and five top-10 finishes. Her 74.94 stroke average is seventh in the league.
Freshman Teresa Tosanco also has a 75.24 stroke average. She collected three top-five and four top-10 finishes and has a team-leading four rounds under par.
Fuad (75.71) and freshman Sydney Bormann (78.53) both have top-10 finishes and rounds 72 or below.
The Jackrabbits' 299.71 stroke average is a school record so far this season and ranks second behind Denver (297.7).
