MACOMB, Illinois – The South Dakota State women's tennis lost a close 4-3 decision to Western Illinois Saturday afternoon in Macomb, Illinois.
Â
It's been a very tough season," head coach
Joey J. Barnes said. "To end it with a very close finish, I am happy that we did not give up or give end. Our number 1 doubles team - Iasmin and Morgan - went undefeated in our conference, which is a real positive. All in all we didn't do all that bad, considering our limitations. "My seniors, Iasmin, Molly, and Elif stepped up to the plate and kept pushing our team. Even with the frustration of losing, they kept getting back up and doing their part for the team. This is very difficult to do when you are on your way out the door and the successes are there. It is now time to reflect and prepare for next year."

The duo of
Iasmin Rosa and
Morgan Brower claimed the first win of the day with a 6-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. Senior
Molly Crum and
Elif Gabb captured the doubles point, upending Anna Daniel Fuentes and Cary Milanes, 6-4 at No. 3.
Â
Gabb and Rosa both won their last points as Jackrabbits. Rosa, a senior from Espirito Santo, Brazil, defeated Courtney Lubbers, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 at No. 1 singles. Gabb, a junior graduating early, topped Milanes, 4-6, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6.
Â
SDSU closes the season with a 2-19 overall record and 0-5 in conference play.
