CHICAGO, Illinois – The South Dakota State women's tennis team opened the fall season with a strong start as one doubles team and five singles players captured wins at the Cougar Invitational in Chicago, Ill.

Sisters
Morgan Brower and
Sidney Brower were the lone doubles duo to capture a win for the Jacks as they defeated Marija Milic and Darya Maltseva of Oakland, 8-4.

Freshmen
Marta-Anna Tynna and
Theodora Kyriakopoulou lost, 8-3 to Livia Hollosy and Kimberly Tiat of Cardinal Stritch. Sophomore
Emilly Van Dijk teamed with freshman
Ekaterina Tretyakova to face Daria Artamonova and Sofia Borcuti of Oakland, but the duo fell, 8-2.
Daria Yakovleva and
Zorka Sara Sviben dropped an 8-3 decision to Oana Trus and Simone Parn from Lewis University. All three teams with compete in the consolation bracket on Saturday.

On the singles side,
Morgan Brower captured her first win of the season with a 6-0, 6-2 decision over Lorea Gamboa of Chicago State.

Sidney Brower claimed her first-collegiate singles win with a 6-3, 6-3 mark over Parn, while Yakovleva defeated Anne Apfelbeck from Cardinal Stritch, 6-4, 6-3.

Sviben topped Mary Ellen Green from NIU, 6-2, 6-1 and Tretyakova took the final win for the Jacks with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 decision over Abigail Dekkinga from NIU.

Van Dijk and Tynna both dropped their singles matches to move into the consolation bracket.
