Tacoma Talent
Tacoma, Washington native
David Jenkins has made a statement early in 2018-19 to erase any doubt of a sophomore slump, posting 32 and 31 against Colorado?State and Grand Canyon, respectively, with four 20-plus scoring performances and double-digit points in all but one outing. Jenkins now has 728 points in 43 career games.
Jenkins is a hot commodity in his second season of collegiate play after racking up an SDSU freshman record 565 points a year while finishing in the top 10 of freshman scorers nationwide. Additionally, Jenkins finished with 84 3-pointers (one shy of previous record, prior to
Mike Daum breaking it with 96 last year) and hit at least two treys in 24 contests.

Jenkins finished the 2017-18 season as the eighth-highest scoring freshman nationally, and this year sits fourth among sophomores for points in 2018-19. For his career, Jenkins is third among active sophomores, traiiling only RJ Cole (935 career points) and Kellan Grady (748).

SDSU led the Summit League in makes, attempts and percentage a year ago, and this season currently are in the nation's top 50 in all three categories while sitting first in the Summit League in makes (148) and percentage (.771), and second in attempts (192).

Mike Daum became just the second Jackrabbit to score over 2,000 points in his career when he reached the mark Feb. 1, 2018 against North Dakota State. Daum is the 15th Summit League player to achieve 2,000 points, and ranks among the fastest to do it in the NCAA over the last 20 years.

Jackrabbits in Two Scheduling Agreements
Summit League and Western Athletic Conference officials announced in October the matchups and dates for the first year of The Summit League/WAC Challenge in men's basketball.
The Challenge features head-to-head competition between all nine teams. Matchups were set based upon factors including the previous year's achievements, records and RPI rankings, as well as projected rankings in the upcoming season. Those teams with home games in 2018 will play on the road in 2019 and vice versa. In addition, teams will not face the same opponent in back-to-back years.
The Jackrabbits will host Grand Canyon Nov. 6 in their 2018-19 season opener and travel to CSU Bakersfield in 2019-20 as part of the agreement.
Last year, the Jacks were announced as part of a four-year deal with the Big Sky.
Each school will play one home game and road contest against separate schools from the other league during each of the four seasons. South Dakota State joins North Dakota State, North Dakota and Omaha as Summit League representatives, while Montana State, Montana, Idaho and Eastern Washington are participating from the Big Sky.
The Jackrabbits will play the following games as part of the agreement:

Tough Tests
South Dakota State played five Power Five (ACC, SEC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12) opponents a year ago (in addition to a matchup at then-No. 6 Wichita State of the American Athletic Conference).
Although the team does not have any power five opponents on this year's schedule, the Jacks will travel to AAC's Memphis and preseason No. 7/9 Nevada of the Mountain West.
South Dakota State has seven wins over Power Five programs since joining The Summit League in 2007, picking up wins over Iowa State (2008), Iowa (2010 and 2017), Washington (2011), TCU (2015), Minnesota (2015) and Ole Miss (2017).
SDSU's wins over Iowa and Ole Miss in 2017-18 came in the shortest time frame of any Summit League team since 1998 (seven days). The Jackrabbits are the fifth league team to post a win over separate Power Five conferences in the same regular season, and the first to do it since 2009.
In 10 games against power five opponents for his career,
Mike Daum is averaging 18.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, shooting 44.1 percent from the field and 44.2 percent from deep. He has two double-doubles in those matchups.
Preseason All-Conference; Jacks Picked First
Mike Daum and
David Jenkins headlined the Summit League's preseason teams, announced early-October. Jenkins is a first-time preseason honoree while Daum earned his third-consecutive Preseason Player of the Year nod.
Daum is the second Jackrabbit to be named Preseason All-Conference and the first to do it more than once, joining Nate Wolters (2012-13).
As a team, South Dakota State was picked to win the league for the fifth time in program history, garnering 34 of 36 first-place votes.
SDSU Last Time Out (Dec. 1)
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Jackrabbit men's basketball team used a fast start and balanced effort throughout to cruise past Northern Iowa Saturday at the U.S. Bank Stadium Basketball Classic, 82-50.
Mike Daum led the Jacks with his seventh double-double of the season, dropping a game-high 24 points to go with 11 rebounds. He hit 11-of-12 at the charity stripe in the win.
Skyler Flatten scored 17 and had five rebounds with five assists over 36 minutes,
David Jenkins scored 16 and
Alex Arians reached double-figures for the second-consecutive game, adding 11 points for SDSU to go with six rebounds.
Tevin King dished a game-high seven assists.
South Dakota State shot 51 percent as a team and held Northern Iowa to 31 percent shooting from the field, thanks in part to a plus-26 advantage in points in the paint.
"I'm really happy with how our guys played tonight," head coach
T.J. Otzelberger said. "I thought we had great focus from start to finish. We know that with Northern Iowa we're playing a well-coached team who we have a lot of respect for. For us to play like we did tonight, I'm just really proud of our guys."
Ahead one (6-5) early on, Arians hit a 3-pointer at 16:53 to open an 18-2 South Dakota State run, putting the Jackrabbits up 24-7 just past the 10-minute mark of the first. UNI ended the run and pulled back within nine (24-15) thanks to a brief rally of its own near the under-eight media, but State recovered momentum and held the Panthers at bay, carrying a 40-25 lead into halftime.
While neither team fired out of the locker room in the second, the Jacks scored eight straight just before the under-16 media to build their lead to 22 (52-30). Play evened over the next 10 minutes of action before State pushed its advantage even further, going up 77-46 at 4:56 thanks to 11 unanswered.
UNI came within 30 once more, but the Jackrabbit attack kept up the pressure and improved to 7-2 in nonleague play.
Opponent Last Time Out (Dec. 1)
MIAMI – The University of Memphis gave 20th-ranked Texas Tech all it could handle for 35 minutes Saturday at the Hoophall Miami Invitational at AmericanAirlines Arena.
But in the game's final five minutes, the Red Raiders, who reached the NCAA Elite Eight last season, dominated to avoid being upset. Texas Tech (7-0) won by double digits for the seventh time this season, 78-67.
Tyler Harris led the Tigers with 17 points and Kyvon Davenport scored 13. Alex Lomax added a team-high eight boards for the UofM, which won the rebounding battle, 39-36.
The Red Raiders and Tigers were playing one another for the first time in 33 years.
Memphis shot 35 percent for the game against one of the nation's best defensive teams.
"(Texas Tech) dug down deep at the end and we didn't meet their level of intensity," Tigers coach Penny Hardaway said. "We are starting to buy in, but we need it for 40 minutes, not 30."
The Tigers led by as many as 13 in the second half, but committed 11 of their 18 turnovers in the second half to hurt themselves down the stretch.
"I'll take all the (blame)," said Tigers senior guard Jeremiah Martin. "I haven't been playing well the past few games. I'm a leader. I need to be playing to my full potential."
Ahead by nine points at the half, the Tigers built a 13-point advantage after a driving dunk from Mike Parks followed by a reverse layup, in heavy traffic, by Raynere Thornton. Memphis led, 46-33, a minute later after Kyvon Davenport scored inside.
