CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Jackrabbit softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday at the UNI Dome Tournament, falling 5-2 to Northern Iowa and 10-2 to Drake in six innings.

South Dakota State (1-3) tallied 11 hits as a team for the day and struck out four opponents.

Northern Iowa 5, South Dakota State 2
The Jackrabbits took an early lead and put runners on in every inning but fell to the host Panthers in their first game of the day.

Madison Hope started and tossed 2.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits before
Taylor Compton (0-2) entered and threw the final 3.2 frames. Compton was tagged for three runs in the loss and had a strikeout.

Offensively,
Ali Herdliska launched her first home run of the season while
Abbey Murphy and
Baily Janssen led the team with two hits each.

State scored first for the third straight game, using a two-run Herdliska home run in the top of the first to open up the early lead.
Lyndsey Crist drew a one-out walk earlier in the frame before Herdliska blasted a 1-1 pitch over the center field wall.

UNI cut the advantage in half in the bottom of the inning and tacked on another run in the second to tie it up, 2-all.

That draw held until the bottom of the fifth, when the Panthers took advantage of a one-out RBI single before pulling away with another two runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Drake 10, South Dakota State 2 (Six innings)
The Jacks trailed early and could not recover in the day two finale against Drake.
Murphy,
Julia Andersen, Herdliska and
Erin Mullen had hits for the Jacks.
Taylor Compton (0-3) and tossed one inning before Hope entered to throw the second.
Kendra Conard tossed the final four frames and allowed three runs (one earned) with two strikeouts.
SDSU fell behind, 7-0, through the first two innings, but got on the board in the third behind a two-out single from Herdliska.

The inning started with a four-pitch walk for Janssen, and with one out Murphy reached on a fielder's choice. Andersen and Crist followed with a single and walk, respectively, to load the bases, and on the second pitch she saw Herdliska sent a pitch into the right center gap for a two-RBI hit.

DU responded with two more runs in the top of the fourth, and pushed it to 10-2 in the sixth.
