MEET 9: South Dakota State (Men & Women) hosts SDSU Last Chance Meet |
The South Dakota State track and field team will host its final collegiate meet of the 2018 season this Friday. The SDSU Last Chance meet will provide a final tune-up before traveling to Fargo, N.D., to compete in The Summit League Indoor Championships.

The last chance meet will begin at 3 p.m. with the field events including: men's weight throw, pole vault, and high jump, and the women's shot put and long jump.
The rest of the field events will continue throughout the afternoon.

Track events will get underway at 4 p.m., starting with the prelims of the 60m hurdles for both men and women. The last scheduled event, the 4x400m relays, is scheduled at 6:40 p.m.

Ticket Information
The price for admission will be $7 for adults and $3 for kids, ages 3-17. South Dakota State students with a valid I.D. get in to the SJACÂ for free.

Ranked Jackrabbits
In week four of the USTFCCCA.org rankings, the Jackrabbits saw themselves ranked in the top 20 of the Midwest Region for both men and women. The men moved up to 17th in the region, which is their highest rankings, while the women climbed up another six spots to 19th, which is their highest position.

Individually, State has student-athletes ranked in the top eight of two events.

Senior
Colton Bender has been ranked for three weeks in the region, reaching a season-best fourth in the weight throw. Last weekend, he reset the school record for the third straight weekend and was honored by The Summit League, receiving co-athlete of the week accolades.

The women's distance medley crew is listed as seventh-best in the region. The squad (1. So.

Jennie Scislow, 3. So.
Jamie Schweiss, 4. Jr.
Renae Dykstra) ran their first distance medley of the season, which is tied for 10th-best on the school's top 10 marks.

Sophomore
Bryant Courter was ranked for three weeks in both the long jump and triple jump, reaching as high as fourth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump. He has reset the school record in the triple jump three times this season so far.

On the women's side, junior
Rachel King etched her name in the top eight last week for the 3,000m. She is seventh on the list with her season-best performance, which was 2.32 seconds away from her personal-best and school record.
During the first weekly release of the rankings, junior
Krista Steele was fourth in the 800m race, recording on of her best marks in the event and the school's second-fastest all-time mark. Since then, she has trimmed her 800m time down to 2:10.33 minutes.

#EventSquad Rankings
The USTFCCCA also has Event Squad Rankings released weekly. Event Squad Rankings are rankings of each team by event. They calculate the team positioning by grouping the school's top four athletes in each event and ranking them against other schools.

The men's team had two squads ranked in the top 35 of division I. Men's shot put moved up three spots to 29th behind senior
Mason Leiseth's throw of 56-01.25, which is second on the school's all-time list.

The men's high jump remained 34th in this week's release. Sophomore
Bryant Courter and junior
Riley Sears, who both have a jump of 6-06.75, lead the group. Senior
J.J. Hejna and sophomore
Evan Hieber have recorded season-best jumps of 6-04.25.

The women's team has the pentathlon squad and the shot put squad ranked in the top 30. The multi-event group is ranked 16th, with senior
Vanessa Lane ranked 80th in the nation.

The shot put group, ranked 29th, is lead by junior
Kasie Vollmer, who is ranked 141st with her throw of 47-04.25, which is eighth best in school history. Freshman
Madeline Moorhouse and sophomore
Micayla TerWee are ranked in the top 230 of division I individually.

Last Time Out: SDSU Classic
The Jackrabbits came away from the SDSU Indoor Classic with more school records and personal-best marks.

Junior
Kyle Burdick started last weekend by recording his personal-best mark (8:07.26) in the 3,000m. It was the SDSU Classic meet record and the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex record in the event.

On Saturday, Burdick finished the SDSU Classic with another personal-best in the mile (4:04.89) that shattered another meet and facility record. It is listed as first in The Summit League's performance list and it's tied for 92nd in the country.

Junior
Krista Steele opened last Friday by improving her personal-best time in the 600m (1:32.63) by 0.29 seconds and remains second all-time in the school's top 10, just 0.10 seconds behind teammate, sophomore
Oksana Covey for the school record.

Steele continued her great weekend on Saturday, recording a career-best mark in the 800m (2:10.33), which was just 1.02 seconds away from Covey's school record time.

Senior
Colton Bender threw another career-best mark in the weight throw (68-10.00). He's reset the school record for the third week in a row. Bender's throw ranks 24th in NCAA DI.

Mason Leiseth recorded his personal-best in the shot put, out-throwing his father, who is now fourth on the all-time list after Mason threw a 56-01.25 which is listed second all-time on the school's top 10 list.

For the women's team, the 5,000m race last weekend was the first opportunity to run the distance this season. Junior
Rachel King recorded her career-best time in the event, which is the indoor school record. Her time of 16:29.88 is 10.93 seconds faster than the school record set by Allison Lind in 2001 (16:40.81).

The Jackrabbits will travel to Fargo, N.D., to compete in The Summit League Indoor Championships. The men's team was picked as runner-ups in the preseason poll released on Dec. 1 behind North Dakota State. The women's team was picked to finish third behind NDSU and South Dakota.Â
