KEARNEY, Neb. - The South Dakota State women's tennis team fought a hard battle in a 4-3 loss to Rockhurst Saturday afternoon at the Grand Island Tennis Center.

"We played a lot better than we did yesterday as there was a lot more energy," head coach
Joey J. Barnes said. "We still played with fear and without trust. Our abilities reflect with these results because of the lack of trust. We will continue to move forward."

Maria Laura Velazco and
Emilly Van Dijk won their doubles point 6-1 at No. 3 and
Katerina Tretyakova and
Theodora Kyriakopoulou won 7-5 at No. 1 to capture the doubles point for the Jacks.

Morgan Brower lost her match at No. 1 to tie up the match 1-1. Tretyakova was victorious at No. 1 with a 6-4, 6-4 victory to bring the score to 2-1.

Van Dijk, Kyriakopoulou and Velazco lost their matches as SDSU fell to 4-2.

Freshman
Sidney Brower won her point to move to 2-0 on the weekend and claim the final point for State, bringing the final score to 4-3.
