UPDATE: ESU SPRING OPEN & TULSA DUALS (DAY 1) RESULTS
South Dakota State kicks off the outdoor campaign this weekend in Tulsa, Okla. at the Tulsa Duals, competing against the likes of Iowa State, Oklahoma State and Tulsa. Summit League foes Oral Roberts and Omaha will also be represented at the meet on Saturday.

Two Jackrabbits are scheduled to compete on Friday at Emporia State Spring Open. Junior
Kasie Vollmer (Discus - following the men at noon) and sophomore
Dakota Leonhard (Javelin - starting at noon) will compete in Emporia, Kan.

The pole vaulters will be starting the action on Friday evening in Tulsa, at 6:30 p.m. with the women. The men will follow the women, concluding the lone event SDSU will compete in on Friday.

On Saturday, field events that the Jackrabbits will be involved in starts at 10 a.m. (Jacks will not compete in the throwing events at the Tulsa Duals). Track events will begin at 1 p.m., starting with the 2,000m steeplechase.Â

Jackrabbit Outdoor Outlook
The Jackrabbits come into the 2018 outdoor season being ranked third in The Summit League preseason poll.
Â
The men's team was dubbed as third in the preseason five out of the last six years, with last year being ranked tied for second. In the past seven years, the Jacks have finished where they were preseason polled at.

Kyle Burdick and sophomore
Bryant Courter were nominated as SDSU's track and field athletes to watch by The Summit League coaches. Both Burdick and Courter were nominated as the athletes to watch in the indoor track and field preseason poll.

The women's team was deemed third as well in the league's outdoor preseason poll for the fourth consecutive year. The Jacks have finished where they were preseason ranked in four out of the last five years, with the exception in 2014 when the team was polled fourth and finished second.

Rachel King and
Kasie Vollmer were nominated as South Dakota State's athletes to watch by the league's coaches. King was nominated as the 2018 indoor preseason athlete to watch as well.

South Dakota State Finished Runner-Up, Fourth at Indoor Championships
Looking back just three weekends ago, State stole second-place on the men's side and finished fourth in the women's final standings at The Summit League's Indoor Championships.
Â
The men placed second for the third consecutive year, scoring 163 points (second-most points scored for the men's team in the league indoor championships) and beating South Dakota by half of a point.

The men's team had four student-athletes win five events, and 13 student-athletes earn All-Summit League recognition from 14 events (

Three of the Jackrabbits (Sr.
Colton Bender, Jr.
Chase Cayo, R-Fr.
Noah Huber) were named to the academic all-league team for their performances on the season and in the classroom (

Kyle Burdick was awarded the Most Outstanding Performer at the indoor championships while sophomore
Bryant Courter received the Championship Field MVP.

The women's team finished fourth with junior
Rachel King winning two events (Mile & 3,000m), earning the Championship Track MVP, and junior
Krista Steele winning the 800m race.

The team had a total of 10 student-athletes earn all-league honors in eight events (

Last Time at Tulsa
The Jackrabbits last competed in the Tulsa Duals during the 2016 outdoor season.

The men won (scoring 132.5 points) the meet out of seven teams competing, including the likes of Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, and South Dakota.

The women's team recorded second in the duals behind Iowa State, scoring 107 points.

Up Next
The Jackrabbits will split among three meets on March 30, traveling to the SMSU Mustang Open at Marshall, Minn., Stanford Invitational at Palo Alto, Calif., and the San Francisco Distance Carnival at San Francisco, Calif.
Â
However, SDSU will host the Ruth Marske Invitational at the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex on March 24 for high school teams. Another high school meet hosted by the Jacks is the Scott Underwood Invitational on April 2.

The Summit League Indoor Athlete of the Year will be announced next Wednesday, March 21, concluding the league's indoor accolades.
