The South Dakota State track and field teams experienced another weekend of growth in their respective events at three separate meets across the Midwest. A total of 34 (17 men, 17 women) personal-best marks from 24 Jacks (12 men, 12 women) with six (four men, two women) of them being entered as SDSU's top 10 marks all-time. There were also 10 (four men, six women)Â event-champions across the three meets.

Jaymie O'Connor led South Dakota State off on Friday night in the multi-events.

Hieber won his first career heptathlon while resetting his personal-best score (5,126, No. 2 all-time) and winning five of the seven individual events (posting two PR's, and two season-bests).

O'Connor competed in her very first pentathlon, finishing third overall, and set the school's No. 8 all-time score (3,187). Fellow teammate
Kendyl Kreber added a personal-best score with four PR's set en route to a sixth-place finish (2,859).

Micayla TerWee and redshirt freshman
Samuel Coil threw for personal-best marks and climbed up the SDSU top-10 charts. TerWee finished sixth in both the shot put (44-07.00) and weight throw (57-02.00) - adding the PR in the latter and moving into the No. 7 all-time spot. Coil also competed in both the shot put (fourth, 53-11.00) and weight throw (sixth, 57-00.00) - throwing the career-best in the shot put where he remains No. 6 all-time but inches closer to No. 5 all-time.

Emma Stewart finished winner (Altenburg's first indoor win) and runner-up in the long jump - with Altenburg adding a PR (18-02.50) that fell 1.25 inches short of the school's top 10. Stewart added a season-best (17-10.75) in her fourth career indoor top-three finish.

Jordan Hanna ran their ways to their second consecutive wins in the 600m (Gatrost, 1:21.83) and 800m (Hanna, 1:54.14). Gatrost was 0.10 second away from his personal-best mark while Hanna did run a PR - missing the school's top 10 list by 0.12 seconds. Â

She has won all but one of her races - both individually and as a part of a relay team - this season (had the best Jim Emmerich 60m mark but was DQ'd in the finals).

Evan Hieber kicked off the first day of the multi-events with his first-day personal-best and a 321-lead over the field - winning three events and adding one PR and two season-best marks - and ended the second day by topping his previous-best heptathlon score by 167 points (now 303 points behind the school record) and winning his first heptathlon event of his career.

He totaled five event-wins when he previously had only won two indoor shot put events in his career. He added first career wins in the long jump, high jump, 60m hurdles, and pole vault. His personal-best came in the long jump - adding 0.50 inches - while tying another PR in the 60m hurdles - trimming 0.05 seconds off his season-best. The season-best marks came from the 60m - knocking off 0.08 seconds - and the shot put - adding 1.25 inches.

Peter Bates came back on the second day with two personal-best marks and three top-three finishes to jump to runner-up behind teammate Hieber after sitting in fifth after the first four events. Bates added a win in the 60m by cutting 0.05 seconds off his previous career-best mark then started the second day with a runner-up finish and PR mark in the 60m hurdles - trimming 0.10 seconds. The Waverly, Iowa native knocked off 2.32 seconds in the final event - the 1,000m - to add his second runner-up finish and complete multi-event.

It was his second career heptathlon, falling six points short of his first score set at the SDSU Holiday Invite in December.

She added three personal-best resets and tied another to complete her second multi-event score reset of the season. She opened up the meet with two straight career marks - trimming 0.04 seconds off her 60m hurdles best and added 0.50 inches in her second reset of the high jump.

The Sioux Falls, S.D. native then tied her shot put mark set back in December at the Holiday Invite and trimmed 2.97 seconds off her previous-best in the 800m to wrap up the competition.
