For the third time in program history, the South Dakota State women's basketball team (27-6) will play for a spot in the Sweet 16 when it plays No. 3 seed and 12th-ranked Syracuse (25-8) Monday at 6 p.m. in the 2019 NCAA Tournament at the Carrier Dame in Syracuse, New York.

The winner of Monday's game advances to the Sweet 16 in Portland, Oregon, March 29 and 31.

Winners of its last 17 games, SDSU won its opening round game, 76-65 over 11th-seeded Quinnipiac Saturday. Two-time Summit League Player of the Year and three-time Championship MVP
Macy Miller led three Jackrabbits in double figures with a game-high 28 points and 11 rebounds.

NCAA Tournament - 10 Things to Know
- South Dakota State is making its ninth NCAA Tournament appearance in 11 years. It missed the 2014 and 2017 tournaments.
- State sports a 3-8 NCAA all-time record. Monday's game marks the Jacks' third second-round game. In the 2016 tournament, it won 74-71 win over No. 5 seed and 19th-ranked Miami and in the 2009 tournament with a 90-55 win over 10th-seeded TCU.
- The Jackrabbits are making their 13th-straight postseason appearances overall—nine NCAA and four WNIT. They are 10-12 in Division I postseason games.
- SDSU is 1-0 all-time as a NCAA Tournament No. 6 seed. This year is the highest seed for the Jackrabbits and for a Summit League team (previous No. 7, 2009).
- South Dakota State is 3-6 in the first round and 0-2 in the second round. It has wins over the No. 11 (Quinnipiac, 2019), No. 5 (Miami, 2016) and No. 10 seeds (TCU, 2009).
- The 2019 NCAA Tournament marks redshirt senior Macy Miller's fourth tournament and senior Madison Guebert's third. Senior Sydney Palmer and redshirt junior Tagyn Larson and sophomores Myah Selland and Tylee Irwin played in the 2018 tournament.
- The Jackrabbits are one of three teams—Baylor and UConn—in the NCAA Tournament which have had automatic bids in nine of 11 years.
- SDSU is one of 22 non-power five teams who have won two-or-more NCAA Tournament games since 2009.
- The Jacks make their second appearance in the Empire State in the last five years. They played at Marist Dec. 21, 2014.
- South Dakota State is the only Division I program to have its football, men's basketball and women's basketball teams reach postseason the last seven years.
