JACKRABBITS FALL IN SEASON OPENER

The South Dakota State equestrian team dropped its season opener to Texas Christian on Thursday, 18-1. A final scoresheet can be found here.

The Jackrabbits found themselves trailing early and didn't turn in a point until the third event. TCU earned all five points in Fences and Reigning to give the Horned Frogs the 10-point upper hand headed into Flat. Here, SDSU's lone point of the day came after Rachel Head recorded her first ever point and a career high, scoring an 81 over her opponent's 80. Julia Werkhoven (78) drew a tie in the Flat.

Two SDSU riders fell in reining by a combined two points. Cassandra Townsend fell to her opponent 69.5-71 while Isabelle Riggs (70) was ousted by her opponent's 70.5. To close the day, TCU shut out the Jackrabbits in Horsemanship, claiming all five points.

The Jackrabbits are back at it tomorrow (Jan. 29) as they take on Southern Methodist and UT-Martin in Dallas, Texas.
