South Dakota State volleyball plays its second of three consecutive home matches Saturday night, hosting St. Thomas at 7 p.m. at Frost Arena.Â
SERIES HISTORY
The Jacks and Tommies have met just one time in history. St. Thomas picked up a 3-1 win over SDSU on a neutral court in the 1988 season.
SCOUTING THE TOMMIES
St. Thomas, a historically successful DIII team, is 2-14Â in its first season in the DI ranks. The Tommies beat North Dakota in five sets for their only League win so far this year.
The Tommies rank last in the Summit League in assists, kills, blocks, digs, service aces and opponent hitting percentage.
Lauren Galvin does a little bit of everything for St. Thomas. She paces the Tommie attack with a .208 clip and 3.21 kills per set. She ranks seventh in the Summit in hitting percentage. Galvin's 491 total attacks leads
Galvin is second on the team in digs, averaging 2.33 per set, and third in blocks with 16 total. She also leads the team with 19 total service aces this year, which is fourth in the Summit. In total, Galvin is reponsible for 3.75 points per set, which is sixth in the League.
Grace Anetipa and Eva Fitzgerald have 217 and 140 assists, respectively, so far this season.
Defensively, Ellie Dammann has totaled 41 blocks on the season to lead St. Thomas. She is followed by Lander Friedrichs with 26 blocks. Carrie Rutledge averages 2.86 digs per set for the Tommies.
THE JACKRABBITS
Jackrabbit volleyball is 10-6 on the season and 2-3 in Summit League action and most recently beat Western Illinois in four sets.Â
Crystal Burk powers the Jackrabbit offense with 227Â total kills and 3.78Â kills per set, which is second in the Summit League. Chloe Stitt averages 3.08 kills per set, the eighth best on the League list. Sydney Andrews attacks at a .303 clip, topping the Jacks and is seventh in the conference.
Ella Thompson averages an even 1.0 blocks per set (60Â total), which leads the Jackrabbits and is ninth in the Summit League. Carly Wedel has added 28 blocks and Burk has 25. Wedel is fourth on the Summit assists chart with 9.85 helpers per set.
As a team, SDSU is third in the Summit in attack percentage (.242) and fourth in opponent attack percentage (.190). The Jackrabbit blockers rank fourth in the conference at 2.20 blocks per set.
The Jackrabbit defense is led by Tatum Pickar and Burk. Pickar has a team-high 154 digs this season and Burk has added 144. Pickar's 4.16 digs per set is the highest average among the SDSU squad and is sixth among the conference.
LAST TIME OUT
South Dakota State volleyball picked up a Summit League win Thursday night with a 3-1 (25-23, 25-23, 21-25, 25-17) victory over Western Illinois at Frost Arena.
Jasmine Weidemann notched 48 assists for the Jackrabbits in her first career start. The freshman nearly recorded a double-double with nine digs. Chloe Stitt's 18 kills paced the SDSU offense and Sydney Andrews attacked at a .400 clip with nine kills.
Crystal Burk had 11 kills and 12 digs for her eighth double-double of her senior campaign. Tatum Pickar contributed 24 digs to go with her stellar performance from the serving line. Andrews and Thompson took part in four blocks each.
