Baylor Scheierman has been named the first TicketSmarter Summit League Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. This is the second weekly honor of Scheierman's career.
Â
Scheierman was one of two players in the country to record three double-doubles on the opening week of the season. The do-it-all guard averaged 11.3 points, 14.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and a steal in a 2-1 week for the Jackrabbits.
Â
The Aurora, Neb. native leads the country with 42 total rebounds, all of which have come at the defensive end of the floor, and ranks first nationally in defensive rebounds per game. Scheierman grabbed a career-high 18 boards Friday at No. 13/14 Alabama, the most by a Jackrabbit since Mike Daum notched 20 against Purdue Fort Wayne in 2019.
Â
Scheierman opened the season with a 10-point, 14-rebound effort to go along with a pair of assists and three steals in a win over Bradley. He topped that three days later with 10 points, 18 rebounds and six assists against the Crimson Tide.
Â
The sophomore closed out the week with 14 points, 10 boards and five assists in a victory at Stephen F. Austin.
Â
Scheierman and the Jackrabbits return to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Frost Arena against Montana State.
