FARGO, N.D. - Jackrabbit volleyball beat North Dakota State 3-1 (26-24, 21-25, 25-19, 25-19) Thursday night at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse. The victory clinched an SDSU appearance in the Summit League Postseason Tournament for the first time in 2010.
Crystal Burk and
Chloe Stitt posted double-doubles for the Jackrabbits. Burk had 20 kills and 12 digs to go with a four blocks. Stitt's .303 attack rate was a team high and the senior notched 13 kills and 11 digs.
The Bison jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the opening game and forced the Jacks to play from behind the majority of the set. The Jackrabbits began to chip away at the lead and used a five-point run to tie the set at 17. SDSU scored three straight to take a 23-22 lead. A kill and a block from Burk finished off the set 26-24 for the Jackrabbits.
NDSU opened the second set with another 5-1 start. Down 12-22, SDSU went on a 9-2 run and held off five Bison set points before falling 25-21.
Burk put down back-to-back kills in set three to give the Jackrabbits a 17-12 advantage and another two to go up 19-14. After an NDSU service error, Stitt and
Sydney Andrews combined for the final five points of the set, all kills. The Jackrabbits held a commanding 24-13 lead in set four before allowing six unanswered Bison points to make it a 24-19 game.
Elyse Winter finished off the match with a kill.
Tatum Pickar led the back row with 17 digs to go with four service aces and six assists.
Jasmine Weidemann and
Carly Wedel teamed up to give out 41 assists.
NOTES
- The Jackrabbits have clinched their third appearance in the Summit League Postseason Tournament and first since 2010. SDSU's first appearance was in 2007, the Jacks' first year in the League. State won the 2007 Summit League Tournament and earned its first and only berth to the NCAA Tournament.
- Crystal Burk has 13 double-doubles on the season, Chloe Stitt has five.
- SDSU completed the season sweep over NDSU for the first time since joining the Summit League.
- The Jackrabbits move to 17-11 overall and 9-8 in conference matches.
