South Dakota State is 5-7 overall and 1-0 in the Summit League after an 85-78 win over Kansas City Monday night.
Myah Selland's 12.0 points per game leads the Jackrabbit scoring. Paige Meyer averages 10.8 PPG, followed by Tori Nelson (9.5) and Paiton Burckhard (9.1).
Kallie Theisen's 5.3 rebounds per game is a team high. Burckhard is just behind her with 5.2 RPG. Meyer averages 3.6 assists.
Oral Roberts is 5-7 on the year and 0-1 in the Summit after a loss to South Dakota Monday.
Tirzah Moore leads the Golden Eagles in scoring (11.7 PPG) and rebounding (5.5 RPG). Hannah Cooper adds 8.3 points per contest and gives out a team-high 3.3 assists on average.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State is 5-7 overall and 1-0 in the Summit League after an 85-78 win at Kansas City Monday night. Monday's game was the first true road win of the year and first time collecting consecutive wins.
- Oral Roberts is also 5-7 overall and lost to USD Monday night in the teams' conference openers. The Coyotes won handily, 90-59.
- Myah Selland is the Jacks' leading scorer with 12.0 points per game. She scored 19 against Kansas City to go with six rebounds.
- Freshman Paige Meyer poured in 22 points in her Summit debut and added seven rebounds, four assists and one steal. She ranks second in scoring with 10.8 PPG.
- Paige Meyer is one of four freshmen in NCAA DI averaging at least 10.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest.
- Tori Nelson has scored 10+ points in five of the last six contests. The sophomore averages 9.5 points per game.
- The Jackrabbits played the No. 2 toughest nonconference schedule among the Summit League teams. SDSU's nonconference opponents are 64-24, a .727 winning percentage.
- Myah Selland has scored in every appearance of her career, 92 games, and put up more than 10 points in 68 of those contests. She has played in five games this season.
- Tylee Irwin, Myah Selland and Paiton Burckhard have all scored more than 1,000 career points for South Dakota State. SDSU is one of just a handful of programs nationally with three or more active 1,000-point scorers.
- State was picked to finish second in the 2021-22 Summit League Preseason Poll, splitting the first-place votes with South Dakota (20-18). Paiton Burckhard, Tylee Irwin and Myah Selland were named to the Preseason All-Summit League team.
- Myah Selland was tabbed as the Summit League Preseason Player of the Year and was named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year, Cheryl Miller Small Forward Award Naismith and Wooden Award watch lists.
