BROOKINGS— The South Dakota State track and field team was firing on all cylinders at Saturday's SDSU Indoor Classic.Â
For the third consecutive week, Trevor Begeman improved his career-best mark in the shot put, this time throwing for 59-11.25, passing last week's PR of 59-7.75 and the week prior's 59-1.50 that made him No. 1 all-time at State. Taking second place in the event was Noah Huber who threw a PR for a distance of 57-10.50 and continues to own the program's third-best mark.
In the men's 3,000, unattached Jackrabbit Josh Yeager broke the SDSU Indoor Classic meet record with a 7:58.86 to finish first and pass Kyle Burdick's 8:07.26 from the 2018 meet that also stood as the SJAC facility record.
The meet started on a high note with the Jackrabbit distance athletes coming in full force in the 5,000. Leah Hansen ran a 16:54.95 for a PR and the No. 6 time in program history. Her time also stands as the fastest 5K in the Summit League this season and comes as a jump from her previous-best of 17:42.99 from last year's conference meet.
In the men's 5K, unattached Jackrabbit Chase Cayo ran a PR of 14:24.76 and Joseph Minor-Williams followed with a conference-leading PR of 14:25.74, good enough for seventh all-time at SDSU.Â
Coby Hilton continued his impressive season in the 60m dash. The Summit League leader in both the 60 and 200Â ran a 6.77 in prelims and is now tied with Sam Zenner for the best 60m dash time in school history. He was perviously tied for second.
In the mile, Ellie Friesen and Cailee Peterson both turned in PRs. Friesen won with a time of 4:51.89 and Peterson finished second with a 4:55.99 and jumped from 10th to eighth all-time at SDSU. Friesen continues to be ranked fourth all-time at State. On the men's side, Thomas Breuckman took over the top mile time in the Summit League and is now tied for ninth all-time at SDSU with a winning mark of 4:08.72.
Pierre Lear took fourth and added his name to the all-time list with an 8.34 in the men's 60m hurdles finals. In the 60m dash finals, Collette Wolfe ran a 7.76 to be named ninth all-time for the Jackrabbits.
Reid Pierzinski ran a personal best 48.26 to take third in the men's 400m dash and continue being fourth all-time in the event at SDSU.
In the 200m dash, Rich-Ann Archer PR'd with a 25.16. She remains No. 9 on SDSU's all-time list.Â
The Jackrabbits swept the weight throw when Sam Coil took first with a mark of 66-02.50, Noah Huber finished second with a throw of 61-05.00 and Austin Eppard added his name to the top-10 list, throwing for a distance of 58-04.00 to be named eighth all-time at State.
In the women's weight throw, Caitlin Thilges came in third with a mark of 58-06.75 and is now seventh all-time.Â
OTHER JACKRABBIT PERFORMANCES
Emmanual Phoulom-Smith, Cameron Kuil, Pierre Lear and Reid Pierzinski finished first in the men's 4x400 with a 3:19.96.
Lauren Van Dyke, Hannah Whitbread, Rich-Ann Archer, and Oksana Covey finished first in the women's 4x400 with a 3:52.19.
Madeline Moorhouse threw for 44-07.25 for third in the women's shot put.
Tre Manning came in third with a 44-09.00 in the men's triple jump.
Addison Eisenbeisz jumped for 5-06.25 to win the women's high jump.
Tre Manning took second in the men's long jump with a distance of 23-06.25 and Daniel Clarke followed in second with a jump of 22-07.00.
Jake Werner won the men's 200m dash with a 22.08 marking and Manny Phoulom-Smith finished second with a 22.37.
Riley Bauer clocked a 1:55.49 for second place in the men's 800.
Oksana Covey took second with a 2:12.75 marking, and Tori Glazier picked up fourth with a 2:15.95.
Lauren Van Dyke finished second in the women's 400 with a time of 57.51.
Coby Hilton (6.79) finished first, Daniel Clarke (6.98) took second and Manny Phoulom-Smith (7.03) came in third in the men's 60m dash finals.
Jaymie O'Connor won the women's 60m hurdles in a mark of 8.70.
Trent Francom won the men's pole vault with a 17-04.50.
