South Dakota State women's soccer is on the road for the first time since February as it takes on North Dakota State March 26 and 28 in Fargo, N.D.

The Jacks have not lost a game this season, standing at 6-0-4 and is in third place in the Summit League standings.

South Dakota State is coming off a 15-5-2 season in 2019, which included winning the Summit League Championship and making its fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

About the Jackrabbits
In 10 matches played in 2021, the Jacks have held strong defensively, recording seven shutouts and allowing just three goals this season. SDSU ranks 10th in the nation in goals against average with .284 and is tied for 17th in shutout percentage (.700). Splitting time between the pipes is the duo of
Hailee Fischer and
Taylor Lock, who have combined for 23 saves. Making her season debut last weekend,
Jocelyn Tanner saw time in both games as she recorded five saves on 14 shots faced. Defensively, the Jacks have held opponents to 86 shots this season (8.6 per game).

Maya Hansen leads the Jacks and is tied for third in the Summit League with five goals this season. Hansen is one of two players in the conference to record a hat trick this season after finding the net three times vs. Kansas City March 5. 10 of Hansen's 17 shots have been on goal this season.

Another scoring threat for the Jacks is
Kayla Wisniewski. A transfer from Purdue Fort Wayne, Wisniewski has made an immediate impact with the team. Wisniewski scored twice during the weekend series vs. Oral Roberts Feb. 26 and 28, and scored twice in the two games last weekend vs. South Dakota. Seven of her 10 shot attempts have been on goal this season.

Eden Brooker has two goals and two assists in 10 games played in 2021. Six other Jackrabbits have scored a goal this season.

Rachel Hewitt has been the most aggressive shot taker for the Jacks through 10 games, recording 20 shots (10 on goal) while also adding three assists. Altogether, nine Jackrabbits have recorded at least one assist.

SDSU has attempted 129 shots with 58 of them being on goal. Twelve other Jackrabbits have recorded at least four shot attempts so far on the season.

State outscored its opponents 29-8 in 2019 and had a Summit League record 15 shutouts, ranking third nationally in shutout percentage. The Jackrabbits averaged 14.3 shots per contest, putting 126 of their 314 total efforts on goal. Defensively, SDSU limited opponents to 10.4 shots per game and allowed only nine goals for the season, including five in the final 17 games.

Returning for the Jacks is the reigning Summit League Freshman of the Year
Maya Hansen. A sophomore from Savage, Minnesota, Hansen finished second on the team in points (18) and goals (seven), along with four assists in her first season as a Jackrabbit. Hansen posted five game-winning goals in 2019 and started 20 games for the Jacks. Hansen earned spots on the All-Summit League Second Team and the Summit League All-Freshman Team in 2019.

Karlee Manding enters her junior year with the Jackrabbits after making the 2019 All-Summit League Second Team in 2019 and the Summit League All-Freshman Team in 2018. The midfielder from Waipahu, Hawaii has 20 career points and eight career goals over 2,000 career minutes. Karlee and her sister Kaycee have combined for nine shots, three assists and five points this season.

SDSU brings back all three of its line of defenders to give the Jacks experience defensively.
Kaitlin Zabel was a member of the 2019 All-Summit League First team while
Gabby Vivier-Hannay was named to the 2019 All-Summit League Second Team. A senior from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Vivier-Hannay earned Summit League Defensive Player of the Week honors after playing 177 minutes in the two shutout wins at Oral Roberts.

A Look Ahead
South Dakota State returns home for one final weekend in front of its home crowd this season when it plays North Dakota April 2 and 4. Start times are set for 6 p.m. April 2 and 1 p.m. April 4.

Scouting the Bison
NDSU is 6-4 this season and holds a 5-1 record at home. After a five-game winning streak at home that included four shutouts, the Bison cooled off on their first road trip of the season, losing three of four games against Denver and North Dakota. Coming off a bye week, NDSU sits in fourth place in the Summit League standings.

The Bison average 8.5 shots per game and find net 1.40 times per contest.

Olivia Lovick is the team leader in goals with four in 10 games played. Five of Lovick's 10 shots have been on goal in 10 games played this season. Marian Taiwo is second on the team in goals with three goals on six shots. Setting up the scores has been Jess Hanley, Ellie Schneider and Kelsey Kallio, who each have three assists. The Bison are tied for second in the Summit League in assists with 16 total.

Aly Cole and Abby Wilkinson have each seen time at goalkeeper this season. Both players have 16 saves and allowed a combined 14 goals.

Mike Regan is in his third season as head coach of the Bison. Last season, the Bison did not qualify for the Summit League Championship for the first time since 2008.

South Dakota State is 12-11-3 in the all-time series against NDSU, including a 1-0 win back on Oct. 24, 2019 at Fishback Soccer Park.

Dana J. Dykhouse "Futbol" Stadium
Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium has played host to the SDSU soccer program this season due to poor field conditions at Fishback Soccer Park. Before the six games this season, State's contest vs. Eastern Washington on Sept. 13, 2019 was moved to the stadium due to wet field conditions at Fishback Soccer Park. The Jacks defeated Eastern Washington in that game, 1-0.

The week of home soccer events, it will be determined no later than Wednesday whether Fishback Soccer Park or Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium will be the home venue, based on weather forecasts and field conditions.Â

Matches played at Fishback Soccer Park will be limited to current 2021 season ticket holders, player families and students. There will be no single-game sales available.

Last Time Out (March 21, 2021)
South Dakota State women's soccer played to a 1-1 draw with South Dakota Sunday afternoon at Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.

The Jackrabbits, now 6-0-4 on the season, fired nine shots in the 110-minute affair, placing four on goal.
Kayla Wisniewski netted her second score of the weekend in the second half and
Gabby Vivier-Hannay recorded an assist for SDSU.

Taylor Lock and
Jocelyn Tanner both saw time between the pipes, as the Jackrabbit defense faced five Coyote shots on goal (and 12 total attacks).

USD broke through late in the first half, grabbing a 1-0 lead at 38:59 as Tiannah Moore skipped a shot from just outside the box through the Jackrabbit defense and into the right side of the net.

The Coyotes continued to pester the Jackrabbits throughout the second half, but in the 76th SDSU found its equalizer off the foot of Wisniewski. The score was initially set up with
Abigail Kastens drew a foul just outside the box, and Vivier-Hannay recorded the assist as her free kick from the far side of the field found Wisniewski open in the box for the right-footed score.

All tied at 1-1, the teams found themselves trading attacks the remainder of regulation, sending the game to extra time.
Katherine Jones nearly gave State the golden-goal win in the 95th with an effort that tipped over the crossbar at the last moment, but neither squad would break the stalemate the rest of the way.

Defensive Dominance
The Jacks have not allowed more than three goals in 45 consecutive regular season games, dating back to the 2018 season. In that span, State has recorded 32 shutouts.

Overtime Thrillers
Six of South Dakota State's 10 games have been decided in overtime this season. After tying its opening two games at Omaha, the Jacks tied Denver March 12 and won 2-1 in double overtime March 14. Last weekend, the Jacks tied with South Dakota for its fourth draw of the season. State had just one tie in the 2019 regular season in addition to defeating Denver on penalty kicks in the Summit League Women's Soccer Championship.
