JACKS CLOSE BUSY OPENING WEEKEND

Several South Dakota State track and field athletes turned in personal-best times over the weekend as the Jacks competed in three events across the country.Â
Teams were split for the weekend, with SDSU's sprints and jumps groups at the ORU Invite in Tulsa, Okla., throws and distance squads went to Des Moines, Iowa for the Blue Oval Invite and four distance athletes traveled to Raleigh, N.C. for the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina State.
Addison Eisenbeisz jumped 5-5.75 in the high jump to start her outdoor season and take first at the ORU Invite. Freshman Madison Kizer followed in third with a mark of 5-3.75 and Maddie Mingo (5-01.75) and Kendyl Kreber (4-09.75) went fifth and sixth, respectively. In the women's 400 hurdles, Savannah Risseeuw took third with a mark of 1:06.21. Annie Wendt took first with a 39-04.00 leap in the triple jump. Haley Mottinger, Collette Wolfe, Jaymie O'Connor and Jaiden Boomsma ran a 47.03 for second in the 4x100, while Hanna Whitbread, Madelyn Sanda, Ashtyn Bertram and Emily Altenburg took fourth with a 48.45. Jaymie O'Connor took second in the 100 hurdles with a 13.80. Lauren Van Dyke ran a 57.17 to take fourth at the in the 400. Emily Altenburg soared to victory in the long jump with a mark of 19-0.00 and picked up the new fourth-best mark in school history. Jaiden Boomsma followed with a leap of 18-09.75 to take third and earn the seventh-best distance all-time for the Jacks. Shannon Katz took fifth in the women's pole vault with a 10-09.00, and Emily Rystrom, Lauren Van Dyke Hannah Whitbread and and Rich-Ann Archer crossed with a 3:55.61 in the 4x400.Â
MEN:
Trey Tiefenthaler turned in PRs in both the long and triple jump. He covered 46-11.50, a move from his previous best of 45-0.25 in the triple jump to take fourth and recorded a long jump mark of 22-3.75 for third. Daniel Clarke won the event with a mark of 22-9.75. Coby Hilton ran a speedy 10.45 100m dash to start off his outdoor season and take first. In the men's 400m hurdles, Manny Phoulom-Smith finished third with a 55.60 and Pierre Lear took fifth with a 56.44. Trent Francom won the men's pole vault with a mark of 17-10.50, with Matt Katz taking fourth with a 14-5.25. Evan Hieber records a javelin throw of 160-11.00 to finish second. SDSU went 1-2-4-5 in the 110 hurdles with Nick Wessels taking first (14.69), Pierre Lear took third (15.19) Noah Strako took fourth with a 45.5 and Evan Hieber rounded out the top five with a 15.49 clocking. Reid Pierzinski ran a PR of 48.14 in the men's 400 to claim the sixth-best mark in program history and Manny Phoulom-Smith, Pierzinski, Cameron Kuil and Jake Werner took second with a 3:18.2. Pierre Lear, Reggie Slaba, Josh Donahoe and Braxton Karnik finished fifth with a 3:27.75.

Oksana Covey won the 800 in a mark of 2:13.63 in her home state of Iowa. Jessica Christoffer ran a 4:45.92 in the1500 and Malorie Schmoll followed with a 4:56.25.6 for fifth. Ellie Friesen clocked a PR of 16:50.95 3 to win the women's 5000, marking a huge PR from her previous best of 18:59.3. She's now sixth all-time at State. Cailee Peterson took third with a 17:22.86, Bridget Henne took seventh with a 18:09.65 8 and Josephine Moor clocked a 18:17.08 for eighth. In the 4x400,  SDSU 'A' (Covey, Christoffer, Stadler, Fischer) finished second with a 4:12.39. SDSU went 3-4-5-6 in the shot put with Madi Moorhouse taking third with a 45-08.50, Faith Leiseth finished fourth with a 44-03.25, Meghan Hettinga took fifth with a 42-04.00 and True Thorne grabbed sixth with a 40-01.50. Alexis Schmidt took second with a 145-07 5 in discus and in the women's hammer throw, Micayla Ter Wee took second with a 176-05 and Naomi Wynn took third with a 176-04.
MEN
Riley Bauer finished with a 1:55.88 to take third in the men's 800 while Blake Iverson took fifth with a 1:57.12. Ben Olson took fourth in the 1500 with a 3:51.25, Lukas Nelson finished fifth (3:52.87), Daniel Burkhalter finished eighth (3:55.60), and Carter Knaus took 10th with a 3:56.80 12. Another Jackrabbit PR came in the 5K, this time on the men's side with Alex Auch's 14:51.30 performance that marked a jump from his previous best of 15:04.07. Lukas Nelson took first with a 14:49.95. The 4x400 of Andrew Moeller, Riley Bauer, Derek Boekelheide and Josh Becker took third in 3:44.50. In the throws ring, Tyson Jenkins took third with a 56-01.00 and Dominick Etherington took fifth with a 53-04.25 in the men's shot put. In discus, Austin Eppard finished second with a mark of 164-08 and Noah Huber took third with a 157-05. Huber would take third in the men's hammer throw with a 178-01, Tyson Jenkins finished fourth with a 176-06 6 and Caleb Jones recorded a 161-09.

Four Jackrabbit harriers took to the Raleigh Relays for their opening outdoor season marks. Thomas Breuckman took 41st with a 3:49.35 1500 mark in the field of 105 to earn a new PR. Josh Yeager turned in a PR in the 5,000 with a mark of 13:53.11 (his previous best was a 14:39.02). Joseph Minor-Williams also ran a PR in the 5K with a 14:33.42 clocking, while sixth year Chase Cayo ran his first outdoor 10K in three years and clocked a 30:36.65.ORU INVITE | Oral Roberts - Tulsa, Okla.
