SDSU DISTANCE CREW SETS THE PACE AT DRAKE RELAYS

DES MOINES, Iowa— South Dakota State's distance crew kicked things off at the Drake Relays Thursday, with Leah Hansen recording a new school record in the 10K.Â
Hansen, Anna Donnay, Chase Cayo and Ben Olson all toed the line for the 10K. In the women's race, Leah Hansen won with a 34:03.03 to take over as SDSU's school record holder. She passes Kristin Asp's 35:02.60 1983 mark that previously stood in that place. Anna Donnay ran a 35:27.47 for 11th and the sixth-best in program history.
In the men's race, Chase Cayo ran a 29:19.10 for second place a time that moves him from SDSU's fourth-best mark in the event to second. Ben Olson clocked a 29:43.87 for the No. 8 mark in program history and fifth place.
Jessica Christoffer started the day off for the Jacks after turning in a 2:15.30 in the women's 800 for 11th place and a new personal best in the event. In the men's 800, Riley Bauer ran a 1:51.38 for third.
Thomas Breuckman clocked a 3:48.38 for the ninth-fastest 1500 time in school history, while Lukas Nelson finished in a time of 3:49.29.
Over the steeple barriers, Joshua Yeager ran SDSU's No. 2 all-time mark with a 8:48.70, while Michael Schwinghamer ran a PR of 9:13.82.
The Drake relays will continue Friday and Saturday.Â
