Two former South Dakota State equestrian student-athletes will lead the Jackrabbits during the upcoming 2021-22 season, Director of Athletics Justin Sell announced Tuesday. Jessica Andronowitz will coach the jumping seat squad while Jordan Gates will mentor the Western riders.

"We are pleased to announce that two of our alumni in Jessica and Jordan have accepted these roles with SDSU Equestrian," Sell said. "They both stood out during the search process with their previous experience and their passion for the sport and our program."

Andronowitz competed for the Jackrabbits from 2014-17 and served was selected as a team captain during her senior season. She has served as a professional equine trainer for the past two years and is a member of the United States Equestrian Federation and U.S. Hunter Jumper Association.

Gates served as a volunteer assistant Western coach for the Jackrabbits during the 2020-21 season, following a collegiate career at SDSU in which she competed in horsemanship for four years and reining for two seasons. A team captain during the 2018-19 campaign, she earned all-United Equestrian honors in horsemanship and was selected as Western team MVP.

The Jackrabbits are scheduled to open the 2021-22 season with the Blue and Yellow Scrimmage on Sept. 25. The first regular season event is slated for Oct. 15, when SDSU hosts UT Martin.
