South Dakota State returns to Frost this week to host St. Thomas and Western Illinois in Summit League action.
The Jacks enter the weekend at 10-8 overall and 6-1 in the conference after picking up road wins at Omaha and Denver last week.
SDSU's offense is led by
Paige Meyer, who averages 10.4 points and 3.9 assists per game for the Jackrabbits.
Myah Selland is just behind Meyer with 10.2 points and 2.4Â assists on average. Selland scored a team-high 14 points at Denver to go with four rebounds and three assists.
Paiton Burckhard averages 9.8 points per game and had a season-high 16 points at Omaha last week.
Tori Nelson (9.6 PPG) and
Tylee Irwin (8.9 PPG) round out the Jackrabbits' starting lineup.
Kallie Theisen comes off the bench to lead SDSU in rebounding (5.1 RPG) and blocked shots (1.3 BPG).
For St. Thomas, Erin Norling scores a team-high 13.5 points per game, followed by Jade Hill's 12.6 points. Norling is also the Tommies' rebounding leader, pulling down 5.3 per contest. Hill's 2.9 assists and 1.6 steals per game lead the team.
Danni Nichols puts up 17.9 points per game to lead the Leathernecks and ranks third in the conference. Jada Thorpe contributes 12.8 points on average and Evan Zars (11.6 PPG) and Elizabeth Lutz (10.6) also chip in double figures. Zars tops the Summit's rebounding chart with 8.9 boards per contest.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State moved to 10-8 on the season and 6-1 in the Summit League with an 87-43 win at Denver Saturday afternoon.
- Head coach Aaron Johnston is seeking his 200th career regular-season Summit League win this weekend. Johnston is currently 199-36 in regular season Summit League contests.
- All five Jackrabbit starters are averaging 9+ points in conference games (Meyer - 11.3 PPG, Burckhard - 10.7, Nelson - 10.4 Selland - 10.1, Irwin - 9.0).
- The Jackrabbits rank 15th nationally in 3-point field goal percentage at 37.1 percent. Paige Meyer (21-for-41) and Tori Nelson (19-for-38) are both better than 50 percent from beyond the arc.
- Freshman Paige Meyer is the Jackrabbits' points (10.4 PPG) and assists (3.9 APG) leader, ranks second in steals (.9 SPG) and fourth in rebounding (4.1 RPG). Meyer is one of four freshmen in DI averaging at least that stat line.
- Paige Meyer is averaging 11.3 PPG in Summit League play, ranking third among the league's freshmen and 16th overall. Her 3.9 assists per game and 1.42 assist/turnover ratio both rank fifth in the Summit.
- Tori Nelson has been a consistent scoring threat for the Jackrabbits, putting up 9+ points in 11 of the last 12 contests. The majority of her scoring comes from inside the 3-point line but the sophomore has knocked down at least one trey in all but three games this season.
- Tori Nelson's .674 field goal percentage in conference games leads the Summit League. Her overall percentage of .569 also ranks first in the conference.
- Myah Selland has scored in every appearance of her career, 98 games, and put up more than 10 points in 70 of those contests. She is averaging 10.2 PPG and 21 minutes in her 11 appearances this season.
- Tylee Irwin continues to climb SDSU's career games chart. Thursday's game against St. Thomas will be career game No. 140 for the 5th-year senior, second on the Jacks' all-time list. Macy Miller is the program's leader with 144 career games played. The NCAA record is 157 career games.
- Tylee Irwin, Myah Selland and Paiton Burckhard have all scored more than 1,000 career points and tallied more than 500 career rebounds for South Dakota State. SDSU is one of just a handful of programs nationally with three or more active players to record 1,000 points and 500 rebounds.
