GAME 21: SOUTH DAKOTA STATE at NORTH DAKOTA |
South Dakota State heads north this weekend for a two-game swing to North Dakota (Thursday) and North Dakota State (Saturday) to kick off the second half of the Summit League season. The Jacks are 12-8 overall and 8-1 in the Summit League with four straight wins.
Heading into the back end of the season, the Jackrabbits lead the Summit League in scoring offense (78.7 PPG), team field goal percentage (53%) and 3-point percentage (43%), rebounding margin (6.3) and assist average (18.11 APG).
North Dakota is also 12-8 on the year with a 6-3 Summit mark. After losing to SDSU 72-54 back on January 1, the Fighting Hawks have won six straight games heading into Thursday's matchup.
North Dakota State enters the weekend at 8-11 and 4-5 in the conference. The Bison went 1-1 last week with a loss to Kansas City Thursday before beating Oral Roberts Saturday. NDSU will host USD Thursday evening before Saturday's SDSU contest.
Myah Selland is the Jackrabbits' leading scorer with 10.8 PPG, followed by
Paige Meyer, who averages 10.7 points and 4.0 assists per game.
Paiton Burckhard (9.9 PPG),
Tori Nelson (9.6 PPG) and
Tylee Irwin (9.6 PPG) round out the Jackrabbits' starting lineup.
Kallie Theisen comes off the bench to lead SDSU in rebounding (4.9 RPG) and blocked shots (1.3 BPG).
Reigning Summit League Player of the Week Kacie Borowicz averages 18.8 points and 4.6 assists per game for North Dakota. She is joined in double figures by Olivia Lane (11.8 PPG) and Claire Orth (11.2). Lane grabs 7.4 rebounds, on average, and Orth forces 1.8 steals.
Heaven Hamling puts up 13.6 points per game to lead the Bison offense. Ryan Cobbins adds 11.6 points to go with a team-high 5.1 rebounds.
KEY STORYLINES
- South Dakota State moved to 12-8 on the season and 8-1 in the Summit League with a 114-50 win over Western Illinois Saturday afternoon at Frost Arena.
- The Jackrabbits currently rank 4th in the nation in field goal shooting (47.5%) and 7th in 3-point shooting (38.4%).
- SDSU shot better than 64% from the floor in both games last week and set a new program record with a 71% 3-point shooting effort against St. Thomas Thursday night.

- All five Jackrabbit starters are averaging 10+ points in conference games - Meyer (11.7), Selland (11.0), Burckhard (10.7), Irwin (10.3). Nelson (10.1). The Jacks are the only team to have all five starters rank in the top-25 of the Summit scoring chart for conference games.
- The SDSU defense has held opponents to 50 or fewer points in each of the last four contests.
- Paige Meyer is the only freshman in the country averaging 10.5 PPG and 4.0 APG while shooting better than 40% from the field. She is 49% in FG shooting, 52% from beyond the arc and also contributes 3.7 rebounds, on average.
- Tori Nelson's .646 field goal percentage in conference games ranks second in the Summit League, behind teammate Kallie Theisen. Her overall percentage of .561 also ranks first in the conference. She has put up 9+ points in 12 of the last 14 contests and has knocked down at least one trey in all but four games this season.
- Myah Selland has scored in every appearance of her career,100 games, and put up more than 10 points in 72 of those contests. She is averaging 10.8 PPG and 21 minutes in her 13 appearances this season.
- Tylee Irwin continues to climb SDSU's career games chart. Thursday's game at UND will be No. 142 for the 5th-year senior, second on the Jacks' all-time list. Macy Miller is the program's leader with 144 career games played. The NCAA record is 157 career games.
