South Dakota State swept the jumping seat events and went on to defeat Minnesota Crookston, 14-1, in a season-opening equestrian head-to-head competition Saturday at the DeHaan Equestrian Center.

Three of the victorious riders for the Jackrabbits were first-time riders, with Sophia Kregoski and Mikaela Haskins earning Most Outstanding Performer honors in their divisions. Kregoski led the way in fences with a score of 84, while Haskins picked up a point to go along with MOP honors after scoring 82 in flat.
 Ella Domenicone also won in her first time in the fences lineup, scoring 82 points. Samantha Hunsecker and Cali Karbler closed out the sweep with respective scores of 83 and 75 as the Jackrabbits held a 324-268 advantage in raw score en route to earning all four points in fences.

In flat, veterans Julia Werkhoven (76), Hannah Steele (76) and Rachel Darby (71) joined Haskins in completing the SDSU sweep.

Moving to the Western events, SDSU claimed three of the four points in both horsemanship and reining. Shelby Cochran was named MOP in horsemanship after tallying 77.5 points on GW, while Annika Hanson (75.5) and Callyn Fox (73.5) also picked up points. Olivia Becker earned the lone point for Minnesota Crookston after tallying a 73.5-68.5 victory over Paige Wellendorf in their head-to-head matchup.

The Jackrabbits closed out the competition by going 3-0-1 in reining. Lydia Loken scored a 73 on Lucy to win her matchup, while Cassandra Townsend and Isabelle Riggs each posted scores of 71.5, with Townsend being named MOP in the event. Freshman Paige Butterfield tied in her matchup with a score of 68.

The Jackrabbits return to action Oct. 28 with a head-to-head competition at UC Davis. SDSU also will square off against Georgia on the weekend.
