#23/24 South Dakota State will take on its first official opponent of the season Monday night when it hosts #21/21 Creighton at Frost Arena.
The Jackrabbits are fresh off a 2022 WNIT championship and return its top four scorers from last season. Myah Selland's 14.3 points per game led the Jackrabbits in 2021-22.
The Bluejays reached the Elite 8 for the first time in program history a season ago with upsets over No. 8 Iowa and No. 10 Iowa State along the way. They return their three top scorers from that squad, including Sioux Falls native Emma Ronsiek (13.9 PPG)
Key Storylines
- South Dakota State hosts No. 21 Creighton in a top-25 battle to open the 2022-23 season Monday. This matchup was mentioned by ESPN as one of the most impactful nonconference games in the NCAA this season.
- South Dakota State returns four starters and six of its top seven scorers from a season ago. That group is highlighted by the the Summit's Preseason Player of the Year Myah Selland.
- The Jacks are ranked No. 23 in the AP preseason poll and No. 24 in the WBCA/USA Today preseason poll. This is SDSU's first ever appearance in either preseason poll and first national ranking since being No. 25 in the final AP poll of 2020-21.
- The Jackrabbits added five newcomers to the roster, including Rapid City native Dru Gylten. Gylten led the Pac-12 in assists as a senior at Utah last season and is using her final season of eligibility closer to home at SDSU.
- Selland was one of four Jackrabbits named to the league's preseason teams. Selland, Paiton Burckhard and Paige Meyer are on the preseason first team while Tori Nelson was named to the second team.
- Myah Selland was named on the Naismith Trophy preseason watch list, the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year preseason watch list and the the Cheryl Miller Award preseason watch list.
